From yesterday's Irish Times, a notice about a couple getting engaged. I'm sure their family and friends are aware of the happy event so why go to the bother of paying for a notice in a newspaper?

On an @AerLingus flight to Dublin this morning the Captain, as we flew over Landโs End, gave a full description of where we were and the route we would be taking to Dublin in fluent Irish and then in English. Impressive.

The cost of maintaining this ship is โฌ110k per week and has totalled โฌ11m to date. There is little prospect of an early sale. Why not drain it of all fuel and oil, tow it out to sea and sink it? https://t.co/OvAwpC9ENv

Brought a load of timber offcuts to my local @Corkcoco Recycling Centre only to be told they are no longer accepting timber as per instructions from County Hall. They have too much, apparently. What are we expected to do? Burn it?

Listening to @DarraghOBrienTD on RTE hoping there will be no objectors to the MetroLink. Of course there will. The likes of Peter Sweetman and his ilk are probably already drafting their submissions. There isn't a hope construction will start in 2027; 2037 if we're lucky.

I was sorry to read that Brian Patten died the other day. He wrote one of my favourite poems - Inessential Things.

Alas, I have failed to see the greatness in One Battle After Another. I thought it was monumentally boring. Would I watch it again? No. 2/5

Munichโs Oktoberfest has started. A pity that Corkโs Octoberfestbeag, which was hugely successful, had to end because of a concerted campaign against it by the local vintners.

Who to blame for escalating food costs? The feirmeoiri. Theyโre living high on the hog (and the cow, and the sheep) and weโre paying through the nose for it. https://t.co/XzVL5x5BMl
