For coaches & practitioners looking background info, Maliza & Blockens review โฌ‡๏ธ is essential reading ๐Ÿ‘Œ. 1๏ธโƒฃ Your body is the biggest drag source. ๐Ÿ”นUp to 90%. ๐Ÿ”นAero skinsuit reduced drag by ~7%, saving 15โ€“25W at 45 km/h. Thatโ€™s free speed, especially over long efforts.

Ahead of the Paris Games, we studied how well cyclists hold aero positions after wind tunnel testing. Because aero gains in the tunnel mean nothing if position canโ€™t be sustained on the road or track. Our study on positional drift is currently being written up. ๐Ÿšดโ€โ™€๏ธAero๐Ÿงตโฌ‡๏ธ.

5/ How to implement on-bike RT:. โ€ขFind a moderate climb (~6%).โ€ขUse a big gear (53x13, etc.).โ€ขPerform 7 max-effort pedal strokes.โ€ขRepeat for 5 sets, 2/week. ๐Ÿš€ Simple, effective, and NO gym required!.

4/ While on-bike strength training has its benefits, gym-based training shouldnโ€™t be overlooked. Research shows it:.๐Ÿ”น Improves cycling economy (Beattie et al., 2014).๐Ÿ”น Increases time to exhaustion (Sunde et al., 2010).๐Ÿ”น Boosts sprint & climbing power (Rรธnnestad et al., 2010).

1/ A 10-week study compared three groups of well-trained cyclists:.๐Ÿ”น Off-bike RT (squats).๐Ÿ”น On-bike RT (high-intensity pedaling).๐Ÿ”น Control (no RT). On-bike training produced similar (or better) results than squats! ๐Ÿš€. ๐Ÿ“„ Study: DOI: 10.5114/biolsport.2025.146790.
