One approach to redistricting that Virginia Democrats are looking at would be to add trigger language to the Constitution that allows them to redraw congressional boundaries if another state goes through with redistricting

Just dropping this here as a reminder that the first time Virginia's current bipartisan redistricting commission tried to draw maps in 2021 was ... not exactly smooth sailing

The Washington Post has reported that premiums charged by ACA insurers for benchmark plans will increase an average of 30% in 2026. But that’s NOT the increase most ACA enrollees will see. Their out-of-pocket premiums will increase by much more if enhanced tax credits expire.

My point is that the bipartisan commission struggled to actually do the job; ultimately, the court was the failsafe. So anyone holding the commission up as a perfect model of good governance is skipping over some stuff!

(Note, this is not to say that the maps we ended up with in 2021 -- after the Supreme Court had to step in because the commission deadlocked -- aren't fair. They get a pretty good grade from the Princeton Gerrymandering Project, for instance.)

This Virginia redistricting thing is moving fast. Just now on his regular press call @timkaine said he hadn't had a chance yet to talk to state Democrats about their plans. Said he was "a bit surprised" but expected to be debriefed by the end of the day.
