Looked up the original of Holmes's Path of the Law speech. A bit jarring to compare the end of the speech with the item that immediately follows it.

Delighted to announce that On Treason: A Citizen's Guide to the Law is being released today in paperback by @eccobooks. As accusations of treason increasingly pervade public discourse, this book helps clarify what treason is, and what is not.

Celebrating the 250th anniversary of the Battles of Lexington and Concord. My book, “The Trials of Allegiance: Treason, Juries, and the American Revolution,” documents the struggles around the rule of law during this bitterly divisive period.

It's not quite as wild as John Tyler having a living grandson, but I was amazed to learn today that Grover Cleveland has a grandson who is only 72. (h/t @jessicaklowe) .Grandson of Grover Cleveland on Trump's shattering of historic record

I’ve always disliked the gratuitous insertion of “you know” into casual conservation and thought it a largely modern irritation. Well, here’s John Jay in a July 6, 1776 letter to Edward Rutledge: “We have a government, you know, to form; and God only knows what it will resemble.”.

This anecdote is in Volume 31 of the Documentary History of the Ratification of the Constitution, from the State Gazette of North Carolina, Oct. 6, 1788. (3/3).

The “whole assembly shook with applause, echoing and re-echoing sounds on sounds.” "Bumclangor" is a new one for me, but I like it. If you're writing faux eighteenth-century poetry (or law), and "fart" just doesn't work for your rhythm, "bumclangor" will do nicely. (2/3).

In the 1788 NC ratifying convention, a Federalist was interrupted by an anti-Federalist who, “presenting forward his brawny buttocks,” discharged "a dreadful bumclangor, emitting a thick tophetic stench more foetid and pestiferous than the . steams of . Lake Avernus.” (1/3).
