CBS News poll: By 56-44 margin, Americans want statewide mask mandates, while 57 percent of parents want masks required in schools, compared to 36 percent who want them optional
UPDATE: Pritzker office responds to GOP complaints about mask mandate: "Republicans need to spend less time complaining about doctors’ recommendations for ending this pandemic and more time actually trying to end it – by encouraging their supporters to get vaccinated"
UPDATE: Pritzker campaign: "The next mayor of Chicago may be called upon to lead in a similar type of emergency and residents deserve to know if their next Mayor will listen to experts or instead to right wing talk show hosts when making decisions about people’s lives"
NY Times says the tornado hit the Amazon building in Edwardsville at 8:35 pm. A tornado warning was issued for that locale at 8:06 pm. What, if anything, did Amazon do to protect its workers?
The only thing "botched " about the raid on Anjanette Young's home was that a wrong address was targeted. *Everything after that* was done on purpose. Everything.
Florida's positivity rate was 2.54 percent on June 6. That's almost exactly where Illinois is today. Florida's positivity rate today is *12.39* percent. A lot can change in 2 weeks. Please wear a mask
Just 68 years ago, Emmett Till was only 14 when he was lynched by white supremacists.
The creation of this monument is an important step in remembering his and his mother Mamie’s stories and the legacy of the horrors of racism.
We must never forget or diminish their history.
All residents and staff at state veterans homes have now been offered the vaccine. Check out this tiny staff acceptance rate. Heads need to roll and the union needs to step the heck up
Only politician I've ever seen cheered at a Chicago ballpark was Jesse White. Otherwise, politicians get booed. Even presidents. And every time people make a big deal out of it for some reason.
I am on a porch overlooking the ocean near the equator. The night sky is crystal clear and I can see every star. It's warm with a strong breeze. Everything is perfect. I won't be tweeting for awhile. Goodnight
Pritzker on why state is stepping in: Chicago ‘isn’t moving fast enough’ and ‘We cannot have people freezing on the streets of Chicago’ and the city did not make the case to legislature for direct funding
Rep. Buckner: ‘If the federal government cannot adequately deal with the housing issue for tenured Chicagoans and our new arrivals, then Chicago and Illinois should be prepared to rescind the offer to host the DNC’
An unrepentant convicted felon and incorrigible proven liar should not be given a free pass to say whatever comes out of his putrid mouth without even questioning it. Stop giving credence to this clown's ravings. /rant
Just in case you're considering it, voting twice in Illinois is a Class 3 felony punishable by 2-5 years in prison. Also, by law, no votes can be tabulated until polls close at 7 pm on election day. Showing up on election day to see if your vote was counted is useless
Today, a majority of the Board found that a union’s use of rats or other inflatables, along with other bannering activity, does not violate the National Labor Relations Act, even when targeting a neutral employer. Read more:
He’s saying somebody hacked his account in order to like random racist/offensive posts going back months? Was there a body double at those two Awake Illinois events? Does he not actually prefer ketchup on hot dogs? Are we in a John le Carré novel?
After first saying he would track down the campaign volunteers who liked bigoted posts, Paul Vallas now tells
@cbschicago
his
@paulvallas
account was hacked
So...driving 24 miles round trip to fill up your tank...to save 9 cents a gallon. If you drive a midsize car you save under 1.50 in gas tax on a 15 gal. tank while using nearly a gallon of gas. Congrats, you saved negative $1.50 and wasted an hour of your life.
Absolutely NOBODY is being "locked down." C'mon. Enough with the panic-inciting clickbait headlines. Don't we have enough problems right now without this?
Gorgeous city visuals and an exciting, new type of NASCAR race. Plus, Chicago watches when they’re the center of attention. Huge number of eyeballs and that drives ratings. NASCAR needs to up the payout tho. A lot. Chicago is now essential to its comeback. $$$
NASCAR's first-ever street race in Chicago averaged 4.63 million viewers on NBC.
That makes it the network's most-watched NASCAR race in six years and the 2nd most-watched NASCAR race this year behind the Daytona 500.
Huge numbers for NASCAR 📈
The real heroes of this crisis are the people who do the work we took for granted. I'd add to this list those who keep our water, electric and natural gas services operating. Sanitation workers, HVAC, plumbers, electricians, manufacturing workers, bank and credit union staff...
While many of us are staying home, others are continuing to work to provide essential services. ⚙️ Doctors, nurses, mail carriers, grocery store workers, gas station attendants, and everyone else whose work keeps our communities going: Thank you.
I felt extra grumpy over the weekend, so I apologized to 2 people for my attitude today (including my mom), and they both said they couldn't tell the difference. Man. I'm so sorry
All the problems in the world and this state legislator needs to make himself the hero of a fairytale about imaginary oppression. People are such drama queens
I asked a professional reporter on the scene of the
#chicagoprotest
today how many folks were wearing face coverings that he could see from his vantage point. "Almost all" was the reply.
Vallas says his past “dictator” comments about Gov. Pritzker were “really focused on the CTU”: “Look, I've done 4000 interviews … Some people could pick something and argue that I'm too far to the left … you don't know how they splice things or what they pull up.”
Alright, what member of of the Illinois House is this?
Brief look at state law, House plates are assigned by length of time served, with lowest numbers going to those who have served the longest.
The disclaimer above the ad claims this is a political advertisement, but no such campaign committee has registered with the state and no such LLC exists. So, who paid for it,
@suntimes
?
With 52 of 52 precincts counted (and some mail still to come) all three of Awake Illinois' candidates are trailing in the Quincy School District 172 race (Kaufman, Allen and Randolph). Quincy is pretty darned conservative.
Still no symptoms at all and got an easy-peasy PCR test today at Walgreen's drive-thru. Was told to expect results in 3-5 days, so lots of folks must be getting themselves tested. Please, get vaccinated.
New IL Senate President
@HarmonForSenate
tells
@AmandaVinicky
he will be leaving his law firm to focus full time on his public job. That law firm has in the past been involved in business with state govt.
Hey
@suntimes
you know I love you, you even publish my columns, but your website can be so annoying. Even when I enter my username/password for my paid subscription (for the umpteenth time) I still get this overlay. Please, please fix at least this. Thank you! 💕

A quick thread on in the importance of being careful what data you share - even if you're the Queen. Today, Her Maj tweeted this lovely picture, gor bless er, etc. You might think that the contents of the red box would be official business. And you'd be right. 1/6
It's 2021. Email has been available for decades. Please don't hit "reply all" when asking the sender a question. Also, for you senders, try this newfangled thing called BCC. Thank you kindly, but I cannot believe this is still happening
One of the reasons why ballot-counting lasts up to two weeks in Illinois and elsewhere is because overseas ballots from active-duty military members take time to trickle in - and those votes can be crucial in super-close races. Something to consider on this Veterans Day holiday.
Wild seeing State Rep Theresa Mah personally remove campaign signs critical of her outside the Columbia Explorers Academy polling location, and put them in her trunk before driving away. The signs were with the rest of the campaign signs past the electioneering cones.
