A hopeful takeaway from #230PCC was starting to recognise (after multiple presentations on ‘co-design’), there was a shift in understanding that, in fact, true #codesign is only possible when #community are co-leading the process 🤞.
@brett_scholz modelling #partnership invited key opportunities to understand why it’s essential to learn from & with #community & #livedexperience in #palliativecare. Moving forward requires critical reflection & commitment to learn how to move beyond mere engagement towards genuine #codesign

The heartbreaking reality for many who lose their closest loved one; who will be there for them when they’re at #endoflife? We can’t leave people in #singlehouseholds forgotten or left behind #230PCC.
A story of Rosemary, who, during COVID, traversed RACF & hospitals. #EndofLifeCare in ED she ended her life back in RACF with her family advocating & providing so much of her care. What happens to those without available family? We need to do so much better. #23OPCC

Yes!! A critical discussion we need to keep having. #palliativecare is not a death sentence. It’s grounded on the principles of improving #qualityoflife, giving individuals & their loved ones the best opportunity for quality, person centred care if referred early enough #230PCC.
"Is this person well enough to be referred to palliative care? We are not a terminal care service." - Prof David Currow, Deputy Vice Chancellor, @UOW talks about the importance of early referrals to support people to live as well as possible for as long as possible. #23OPCC

and the highlight of #ICED2023 for me. having #courageousconversations with a remarkable group of humans. We all leaned into the discomfort, walking forward in genuine partnership as #eatingdisorder #allys, #livedexperience #changemakers 🙏.
Highlight of #ICED2023 (already) goes to @calvert_shannon and Anthea Fursland’s workshop exploring LE/le. An open and transformative discussion

A devoted ally to #livedexperience leadership & engagement. Love your work @brett_scholz @AliveNational.
My 3rd piece as writer-in-residence at @AliveNational is out. It's about proliferation of consumer engagement/involvement initiatives which I worry fail to create space for #ConsumerLeadership, and instead polish the glass ceiling excluding consumers from decision-making roles.

Many with eating disorders also have co-occurring needs & don't receive appropriate care sooner. We need to capacity-build & resource community services with access to evidence-based care so people can stay out of hospital @Bfoundation @NEDC_Australia @InsideOutInst @ANZAED1.
The number of West Australians hospitalised or seeking mental health help for eating disorders has suddenly jumped 85 per cent, prompting pleas for more public funding for treatment.

If we want better outcomes, we need to prioritise the core function of care before the vision & co-design the essential framework with eating disorder clinical, research & lived experience expertise @Bfoundation @aedrtc @InsideOutInst @ANZAED1 @CEED_AU @NEDC_Australia.
Perth’s Shannon Calvert knows too well how underfunded and under-resourced services are for people with an eating disorder in WA.
