You used to be able to just create a Native GUI App in 10 seconds. No Electron, no Game Engines, no Web frameworks. Just a lean fast .EXE produced in seconds. Works on any Windows machine WITHOUT Internet connection. Software Development is actually going backwards.

The best part of a project built by volunteers is that anyone can volunteer, from high schoolers to professors and anyone in between! High schoolers have written complex C code and hand written assembly in FFmpeg.

Such wonderful memories of the design team, the intense work and the incredible results...industry shaping results. Often, when you are working like crazy, in the middle of a project like this you have no idea of the magnitude of the impact it will have. You know you are part of

When I'm programming, the number one thing that makes me sad is when I open C++ files that look like this.

Even the WindTre app failed with the very explanatory <ironic> error message along the lines of “Something went wrong”.

There's no point in reporting this stuff because the vulnerability is simple: stable maintainers using AI who have no idea what they're doing and are using it as a substitute for the work everyone else assumes they've performed It'll keep happening until that bug's fixed.

If you see a github user with this badge it’s because they have code ~1,000 feet underground in the Arctic Circle. 5 years ago Github took a snapshot of all public repos, stored it on photographic film (essentially big QR codes), and stuck it in a mining tunnel.

And I recall Windows XP did have a "Theme library" with a C-interface Theme API in the Platform SDK (<uxtheme.h>?) to manage different visual styles. (Not sure if that was versatile enough, though...)
