great story from @bysmoore about the complexities surrounding a california mountain range that's almost entirely closed to the public:

The mountains can be seen for miles around yet freely accessed by almost no one.

palestinian journalists are giving us completely new ways to think about journalism, with totally new ethics and methods—including demonstrating journalism as a communal act, rooted in communal care and love. not scoops. not competition. teamwork and love in the public interest.
Today, we got our lunch late, but together. A group of brave journalists decided to stay in Khan Yunis and cover what's happening here despite the intense shelling. All of us, hand in hand.

Tonight I attended a vigil for the fallen journalists of Gaza. Since the flare up of the conflict 36 journalists have been killed. These journalists made the ultimate sacrifice in the name of the press. We must protect our colleagues who are still reporting from Gaza.

The Director of the UN's New York office just resigned after thirty years at the organisation over the UN's handling of the ongoing genocide of Palestinians. The entirety of his resignation letter is a necessary read but this first page blew me away.

"The chicken may be $20, but whatever you spend on entertainment is between you and God." if you read one story today, make it this:
I never thought I’d conduct an interview while getting a lap dance—nor did I think I’d break vegetarian for a bucket of fried chicken at a strip club—but there’s a first time for everything. Now in @SFGate 🍗 https://t.co/u3qMNED4aP

After the recent frenzy surrounding sex workers in the Mission, I started wondering if the narratives that were being circulated added up to the actual experiences of sex workers and those that advocate for them. Here’s what I learned:

The response of residents and officials may not match the realities faced by workers on Capp Street.
