Teachers fill many roles in small rural schools. This one is sad and in need of more support.
"Teachers, just as much as medical professionals and addiction counselors, serve as first responders to the opioid crisis." ICYMI, read the latest in our @HuffPost @hechingerreport #fostercare series https://t.co/h6loWRkhxV

So many important points that rural educators should consider. Thanks for highlighting so many of them.
Today was a first! I was able to participate in @edutalkradio's radio show to talk about rural education. Thank you, @PrattAllen and @nrea1 for the invite. I really could sit and talk #education all day long! #ruraled @Ntiogasd @PADeptofEd

Promoting teamwork, cultural awareness, and leadership in the classroom is so important, but to link that with NASA and STEM topics is even more engaging. The NASA Education YouTube channel https://t.co/bwwgj88mIs is a great resource for educators.

Interesting way to promote STEM and innovative thinking for students in our classrooms. I am going to present this to my students for project-based learning opportunities.

We need to start thinking about Nature Deficit with our children. “Kids who play outside are smarter, happier, more attentive, and less anxious than kids who spend more time indoors.” Why Kids Need to Spend Time in Nature: https://t.co/6EvfEwQwvH

Returning to my learning environment with motivation, connections, and ideas following a great conference #2018MCLNatSum. Will begin my school year with an increased sense of empathy, dignity, and growth mindset, which will all help to empower learning leaders in our schools.

#ThursdayThoughts What did you use today that was invented by a woman? Was it your windshield wipers, phone caller ID or a paper bag? Maybe the chocolate chip cookie you ate?

This week my fifth grade girls and I finished reading "I Am Malala: Young Readers Edition" What a great way to educate young students in rural America about global concerns and cultural differences they wonder about, but do not understand.

Our students were not only excited, but also conversing about their futures. What a way to plant a seed.
Today, our fifth grade attended a #careerreadiness activity at @mansfieldU and it was a great experience for our young learners. #Lovemu #edchat @CareerCenterMU

I heard one of my 5th grade girls say, "...you know how overwhelmed I am with math, so of course I am terrified to take the math PSSA. I just will never be able do math. I need to share more female math and science role models with my female students.

Teaching 5th grade girls to be passionate and thrive is challenging, but if we can all encourage them to learn from incredible women like Maya Angelou, we will have a strong future. This is a great time to learn from this legend.
