so this is nuts, and very nice. My new book #TheRevolutionists has actually made it onto the Baillie Gifford prize shortlist. It is published today too. To say I'm thrilled would be something of an understatement.
“Formidable female novelists, ghastly literary men, a faith-shaken poet, eunuchs, pirates, horny wolves, international terrorists…" Welcome to the #BGPrize2025 Shortlist:

With no law, order or any alternative administration under the ceasefire, the group is using violence to deter rivals and to hang onto power. this will have consequences for any "peace" deal. My take here: https://t.co/1M9El60Hgv

This is excellent from @burke_jason on the difficulties of removing Hamas. Much as we might like it, they simply cannot be wished away and will remain a factor for the foreseeable future. And while that is the case, Israel will continue to meddle. https://t.co/0NY8w3671d

In 1982, a US president told Israel to end a war. The lessons from then are very relevant now. It's not the threat you fought that is the problem, but the one that is coming. A quick oped based on my new book, #TheRevolutionists (out now) https://t.co/NPD17AsRlS

kind review of The Revolutionists in @NewStatesman "He shows that extremist violence was not some unthinking product of ideology but one 'tool' to help bring about the transformation of society." https://t.co/OPKH6NfJQg

yes, there is much that can go wrong, yes the destruction, scars and trauma will be with us for decades, but to now write about a possible, imminent, even definitive end to this bloody, relentless, appalling war is ... well... a moment https://t.co/m04qr7uYEy

So #TheRevolutionists: The Story of the Extremists who hijacked the 1970s is now out (finally!) Shortlisted for #BaillieGiffordPrize "dramatic, deeply researched" - FT "combines journalistic rigour with spy novel–esque skullduggery" - Kirkus Reviews https://t.co/iDn3bwnZng

I've spent two weeks talking to Israelis about international isolation ... the big question is whether the criticism and outrage abroad helps Netanyahu and the far right, or weakens them ... from Sderot,Tel Aviv and Jerusalem, my report: https://t.co/YNe551Zx0H
theguardian.com
For many Israelis, Netanyahu’s warning to get used to growing isolation confirmed what they already suspected of his priorities

I almost never read 600-page books — but I devoured @burke_jason's "The Revolutionists" in under 4 days. Best book on terrorism I’ve read in over a decade. 👇 https://t.co/KiNvuYFk1w
