What a week it has been! All animals are safe and accounted for and doing well. Our amazing staff has been working non-stop since last week making sure that animals were taken care of and fed. We are so grateful for all that they did during these harrowing circumstances.
We are super excited to announce the newest resident of the Buffalo Zoo! Meet little Amara! She is a 2 and half-month-old ocelot kitten who was born here at the Zoo to mother Ayla and father Pedro!
We'd like to wish the happiest of birthdays to our big handsome polar bear, Sakari. Sakari turns 10-years-old today and our keepers made him a special bear charcuterie board that he ate in 3 min! Welcome to the double digits big guy! Join us in wishing Sakari a happy birthday!
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the sudden passing of our male western lowland gorilla, Koga, who died yesterday morning.

At the Buffalo Zoo, we’re thrilled times two! On March 7, lion Lusaka gave birth to two healthy cubs. The cub’s arrival day is extra special as they were born on their dad Tiberius’s eighth birthday.
Good morning! We’ve got a baby rhino update for you all! On her last weigh in she currently clocked in at 205 lbs! That’s 75 lbs in almost 3 weeks! #❤️🦏❤️

We are deeply saddened to announce the recent passing of our North American river otter, Daisy. Daisy had long been a resident in our Otter Creek exhibit and most recently spent her time with Rascal, our 15-year-old male.
We are deeply saddened to announce the passing of Wilma, our oldest North American bison here at the Buffalo Zoo. Our animal and veterinary care teams made the difficult decision to humanely euthanize Wilma, as her health had recently declined.
A little wobbly but she’s growing fast! Our new baby rhino has gained 11 lbs since being born on Saturday! Today our keepers weighed her at 141 lbs. A growing baby is a healthy baby!

After a couple months of denning Luna is back! Unfortunately she was not pregnant this year, but either way we are happy she got to roll around in the snow today! ❄️❄️❄️

Lion cubs sure do have a lot of energy and lion moms sure do have a lot of patience! Lion cubs learn a lot of their natural behaviors and skills through playing with each other and attacking mom!
The cubs are very close to their public debut. Stay tuned for info soon! 💛🦁🧡
Georgia has officially doubled her birth weight! She was last weighed on Friday at 263 lbs! While she is still only drinking her mom's milk, you can see from the video below that she is starting to mouth and chew on different things. She really liked playing with that bamboo!
In our Buffalo Zoo community, we share both the highs and lows. Today we’re sad to report that Red, the red-footed tortoise was stolen from Rainforest Falls during an incident at the Zoo last night. We’re working closely with the BPD to ensure her safe return.
Please join us in wishing our male polar bear, Sakari a very happy 8th birthday! Nothing like a peanut butter and lard cake with honey drizzle to celebrate! 🎂🐻❄️🎉
This week has been incredibly hard for all of us here at the Buffalo Zoo, with the passing of Koga. We would like to extend our deepest gratitude to our Buffalo Zoo community for all the kind words. Koga truly touched so many lives and it means a whole lot to our staff. ❤️
It’s gender reveal time for our lion cubs and our keepers let dad Tiberius do the honors. We couldn’t be more thrilled to announce that we have one boy and one girl! 💙💖
Now it’s time for names! Stay tuned for more info about cub naming next week!
