It's also that he's a patently toxic leader: trolling and bullying the company and culture he just bought on a bluff. My values won't let me stay here and help him succeed in that idiocy in any way, even infinitesimally.

For me, it's not just that Musk is toying with remaking this space into another 8chan and is already himself dabbling in hyper-toxic rhetoric, or that he's clearly panicked to drive revenue after he sank the company and himself further into debt ...

If @elonmusk actually cared about humanity, that'd be his focus–helping us find the tools, systems, processes, etc. that put technology back under our control and in service of our species.

We view this too often through the lens of 'what happens when AI overruns us' but the truth is most of our tech is overrunning us now or stands to. I'm no luddite, but tools should serve us and a tool run amok is no friend of humanity.

Climate change, nuclear weapons, a Wuhan lab (possibly), social media – the BIG lesson our species is sleeping on is that our ability to scale our technologies has long past exceeded our ability to control them responsibly.

I dressed my son as an astronaut for Halloween fun today. He chose to recreate 2001: A Space Odyssey all on his own.

“Healthy full free speech is probably less than a year away” he’ll promise repeatedly.

I’m gonna give it the weekend, cuz I put in a lot of effort to have what little following I do have, but I’m leaning towards leaving Twitter for good.
