Hot Take: Working with various Agent configuration instructions is worse than working with AppleScript™. Also, using AI to perform simple, repetitive tasks where a shell script would have sufficed is completely insane. It's like buying a private jet to drop off your laundry.

It may seem like a small gesture, but we need to start somewhere. Every voice matters.
The SoA stand with and encourages our fellow creatives to sign the AI training statement. This is a simple statement rejecting unlicenced training of generative AI models on creative work. There is no deadline, only the need for every voice. Sign now -

I was listening to a podcast today about the health and societal impacts of ultra-processed food, and how it's barely considered food at all. Somehow my mind made a leap from that to Generative AI, and what is essentially ultra-processed, low-value content.🤔

I'm reading the very funny (and charming) "Chronicles of a Lizard Nobody" by @patrick_ness. Every time I run across dialogue for the characteristically SHOUTY hawk Miel (“IT MEANS HONEY.”) I can't help but read it as though Matt Berry (@porksmith) was performing it.

”A Brief Study of Birds with Anxiety“… recently I've begun dusting off a picture book manuscript about an adopted penguin and his anxiety about attending 'Flight School'. Not sure if this is the direction I'll go with some of the characters, but you gotta start somewhere.

“Canva says its AI features are worth the 300 percent price increase.” I wonder if those customers who don’t want any of those AI features feel they are worth a 300 percent price increase?

So much for being a cheap Adobe alternative.

I just started a new sketchbook, and in the interest of getting the "dreaded first page" out the way, I give you a brief glimpse into my inner world filled with a myriad of (cute) monsters.

In the summer in Montreal we can usually just run the AC for 30 minutes to cool the house down (and often it ends up being too cold), but for the past few days of 35˚C+ weather, ~40˚C with humidity) it's been running for hours at a time and the house is just 'not hot'. 🥵

PSA: After using Adobe software for most of my career, I started moving to alternatives such as @affinitybyserif and @Procreate a few years back. A few issues to workaround, but no AI, no cloud BS, and no far reaching ToS agreements. And absolutely no regrets.

Kuei. Il y a 11 langues autochtones au Québec. On les parle ici depuis des milliers d'années. Elles ne menacent pas le français et je rêve du jour où le Québec les reconnaitra elles aussi comme des langues officielles. Bonne journée nationale des langues autochtones.

I was incredibly privileged to have been exposed to technology so early in life, and to learn how to create with it rather than simply consume it. Mind you, while writing code came easy, hacking hardware has always flummoxed me.

Mind you, the puzzled/angry looks on my teachers faces (who were supposed to be encouraging us to use computers) when I started handing in my assignments on 5¼ floppies reinforced the fact to me that not everybody saw computers as I did.

My first computer (I was 7) was an Apple ][ that my parents bought for me after my school started using them in 1978. Much to my father's chagrin I saw computers as tools for creative expression, not simply 'serious business machines'.

I can't believe I've been using a Macintosh (not the same one) for 40 years now?! My life might have turned out very differently if my father hadn't bought one of the first ones (for his design firm) that 13 year old me absconded with shortly thereafter.

Went around the corner to pick up a pastry (not shown) and came back to a mysterious wee box on my door step. Turns out it was my @Playdate that was supposedly still stuck in shipping purgatory. Seeing as it’s my birthday tomorrow I figure it’s fine to bunk off today. 😄
