.@realdonaldtrump and @tuckercarlson should know that attacks from insecure men who can’t tell the difference between patriotism and nationalism will never diminish my love for this country. These titanium legs don’t buckle. My op-ed in @nytimes:

In today’s funeral for George Floyd there was "not one reference to hatred or revenge. It was all about love and justice," says Dr. @CornelWest. "The Floyd family lifted up that spiritual moral banner in the midst of a moment in which we got all of the lies and crimes."

“Meaningful” is always defined by whiteness. Meaningful because we don’t organize ourselves like white ppl? Because we don’t fundraise like white ppl? Because white ppl don’t know how to engage w/ how we understand spirituality/theology and what it means to be religious?

The piece is behind a paywall so I can only engage with the tweet and... sigh. I’m tired of being compared to the religious right/white people. Culturally, we are fundamentally different; that doesn’t mean we don’t exist and are “just people on the internet”. So offensive.

Amen, the stone-cold truth. And even with @RevDrBarber and @liztheo publishing all the time and organizing the tens of thousands. Media has got to learn how to report Christians. Cool it with wacky evangelical talking points and notice the swelling army of justice seekers.

It’s accurate to say the religious left is not as well organized/funded as the religious right. But the persistent media narrative that says the “religious left doesn’t exist” is one huge factor that makes it extremely difficult to raise money to organize.

3 reminders from Walter Bruggeman (followed by commentary): 1) Everyone lives according to a script 2) We get scripted through nurture, formation, & socialization—often unaware 3) Americans have been dominated by the script of “technological therapeutic military consumerism” 1/3

And this crisis is showing us that we don't need a church or even a face-to-face encounter to experience the divine, to bring comfort.

My latest: Chaplains are having to bring God to the sick and dying through Zoom and FaceTime (which I'll be doing soon for my seminary training). The Israelites carried God in a tent as they wandered through the wilderness (1/2).

The coronavirus has changed the way chaplains have to anoint the sick and administer last rites – and forced them to confront death daily

The 1619 Project was divisive, erroneous and terrible for the country. Naturally, it was just rewarded with a Pulitzer. I devote a heavy section of my new book, available July 21, to examining its intent as well as its content. You can pre-order here.

To all the parents out there, you’re doing a great job, even if you have to go cry in the shower once in a while. Thanks @annkpowers for asking me to write this little piece on how we are getting by during this difficult time in history.
