Now for the good news - mitigating pain with the use of topical, over-the-counter anesthetics (such as EMLA) ahead of intravascular procedures is likely to reduce the frequency and severity of faints and presyncopal symptoms. Might be worth a try if 💉make you a little woozy 💫.

In healthy young adults without needle phobias, we found that pain plays a key role in predisposing to faints following venipuncture💉. Our data suggest that this is mediated through a reduced capacity to mount maximal sympathetic responses during orthostatic stress.
