This is an excellent article from @MagdalenaGanias! She shares how a one-some-all approach to professional learning wraps educators in layers of support so they develop a sense of confidence, belonging, care, and commitment. https://t.co/7X1xaNbwiv

At the AVID Alignment Summit, district leaders discuss what AVID looks like in their district now, and what they want it to be in the future. Is it a program or a system driver? @AVID4College @Southern_AVID @brettbowersAVID #AVIDSALT

I’m not a big fan of standardized tests for a host of reasons. But today’s @ACT had my 16 year-old chilling with me on the couch for 30 minutes discussing how to punctuate participial phrases and appositives, as well as proper uses of the dash. I’ll take that all day long.

This. Over and over, this.
Academic outcomes will not change until INSTRUCTION changes. As a former instructional coach, I know for a fact that instruction dictates Ss achievement. Not poverty, not culture, not race, not dis/ability, not parent involvement, or any other factor. It's TIER 1 instruction!

This comprehensive MTSS graphic perfectly illustrates how Schoolwide @AVID4College should be positioned on a secondary campus (grow all learners through high-quality evidence-based instruction) and where the AVID Elective belongs (strategic intervention for enrichment).

Still not sure what “collective student agency” really looks like or why it matters? Watch this.
Glen Lake has a lot of students with physical disabilities, but no wheelchair merry-go-round, swings or any adaptive playground equipment — so, one group of students decided to change that, raising about $300,000 to build some.

@brettbowersAVID This is why @AVID4College is so important. It isn't more. It isn't another thing. It is best practices that are refined over time to make teachers and students better.

As leaders, don't confuse doing more with doing better. Improvement often doesn't require buying/trying new things. Instead, it requires investment and focus to realize the potential of initiatives already adopted and commitments already made. More is often a barrier to better.
