Love this transdimensional spiral time transcreative poem, PATMOS, by @LuminanceBloom pub’d by @dmvwifi, that rewrites Hölderlin in the style of Grenier’s Sentences as on Craig Dworkin’s eclipse. Such a poem imagines poetry and poetics as (a)temporal utopian languaging events. 🔥.

temporarily emerging from dissertation exile to say thank you to @dmvwifi for publishing PATMOS in @tagvvrk . It's a rewriting of Hölderlin in the style of Grenier's Sentences—sounding out the first four german lines of the poem while refracting the meaning through word-play.

I so want to believe these reflection paper punishments are a joke, but having taught first year writing for too long, I know they are the logical outcome of this depraved system. Thoughts below.

Still wild that I’m in this amazing issue of OEI, ed. by Michael Nardone, for my collaboration with Courtlin Byrd on a machinic algorithmic re-processing of Louis Zukofsky’s “A”-9.

Lyn Hejinian shaped poetics. Like many, I am mourning her loss today. Her passing does not finish this work beyond death, and while it is impossible, today I’m meditating on a phrase that is just as impossible, a phrase of Lyn’s that I often return to:. this is happening

None of this changes the immense joy, beauty, intimacy, and social reality that coffee fosters, and in exploring how we relate to this global system, we aim to bring ourselves closer to the deeply complex situation of global infrastructure today.

Today, that labor is still violently extracted by colonial forces that depend on cheap labor at production, wages that would never be tolerable in the consuming countries most of its crop serves. A bag of cherries picked for a handful of cents might be $20 at consumption.

By placing our workshop at the site of coffee’s growing, picking, and processing, we aim to foreground the intensive amount of labor and value added at origin by hands that pick and mechanical processes that facilitate its finishing. Coffee is a highly technical process.

The coffee house is also a potent symbol of the avant garde. Every avant garde had its café. But what about its coffee farm? That abstraction of coffee from a crop to a cup is identical with the rise of commodities markets that incentivize the suppression of difference.

Like so much else today it is a fictitious convenience that we experience something as though it only exists in our cup for our own ends, when in fact it is part of a global system consisting of millions and human and non-human forces. Hence, coffee is deeply ecological.
