So it seems there’s criminal syndicate operating inside of @Vodacom now. One of my friends sim swapped today. Three people at gym last week. Always the same story: it happens with zero intervention. Even if you phone them to report fraud, it still goes through

The takeaway: If you have a @Vodacom account, then it seems anyone can just steal your number. Either that, or there's inside help. Call center seems helpless to stop it.

SIM-swapped on @Vodacom ! 1. I get SMS that SIM swap in progress and phone help centre if I suspect fraud 2. Phoned help center: "Can't see anything." 3. I insist they do something – they put a "Security Flag" on my account to prevent swaps 3 hours later SIM swap happens anyway

As a technical person, I've recommended @webafrica to friends and family since they started. The drop in customer support is eye-watering. Given a choice, I'd rather renew my passport than deal with WebAfrica.

Things are going well at Twitter. Objective: better ad targeting. Result: German language Learn to speak English ads being shown to English speakers in South Africa.

My Twitter ads are in German now. And offering help in learning English. Not sure I’d advertise on Twitter right now.

Unpopular opinion: this book is almost 30 years old and in all honesty didn't age very well. If you own a copy do yourself a favor: bury it deeply in your bookshelf and forget about it forever.

Excellent career advice (and company culture advice if you’re a founder)
I wrote a long and rambling post on why the hierarchy is bullshit (and bad for business). Includes digressions on * the big lie of hierarchy (higher is always better) * why hierarchy endures as a data structure * why it sucks (we imbue it with dominance) https://t.co/wsR3kXW1Jn

Silicon Valley’s greatest innovation has been in innovation itself. And innovation is a people problem, not a technical one. A problem of maximising creativity at scale and over time. Companies that don’t get this can’t compete.

I haven’t used Dropbox in ages. Just used it again and it seems like a lesson in business models. As a file-sync service, it’s at least 10x faster than Google Drive and maybe 1000x faster than iCloud. But it just doesn’t matter – for most people it’s a feature not a product
