🔊We call for:. - the need for ++ research on the influence of vegetation on acoustic signals in understudied taxa 🐸🐘🐊🦌. 🙌Thanks to @ornitho_pie @borjamila @cjytheb @TimJanicke. @mncn_csic @EDB_Lab @MPIforBI @cefemontpellier.

🔊We propose a framework for future research:. - identify frequencies with the highest detection probability. - determine if frequencies with greater detection distances are preferentially used. -AAH should focus on signals that are selected for increased transmission distance.

1⃣ no overall support for the AAH. 2⃣ weak support in within-species comparisons among birds (mainly frequency bandwidth studies). 3⃣ support in among-species comparisons in birds, but not significant after excluding studies that did not account for phylogenetic non-independence.

We retrieved 371 effect sizes from 75 studies and 57 taxa encompassing birds 🦜🦉(much more data for this group than others), mammals 🫎🐘 and amphibians 🐸 and.-ran within- and among-species comparisons.-accounted for phylogenetic non-independence. Here are the main findings:.

Based on the Acoustic Adaptation Hypothesis (AAH), animals in densely vegetated “closed habitats” are expected to produce longer acoustic signals with lower repetition rates and lower frequencies compared to those inhabiting less-vegetated “open habitats”.-Is this general ??.
