This is why they try to convince you to empathy can be toxic. Because they want you to have the same attitude towards people who need help as this guy does. Call him out and you're in danger of committing the sin of empathy.

“Thoughts and prayers” has become a convenient substitute for accountability. It soothes the conscience but changes nothing. That’s why the same tragedies keep happening—because comfort replaces action, and symbolism replaces solutions.

Kicking people off of Medicaid is the goal. It's not about people who aren't working or don't want to work.

In 2018, Arkansas became the first state to add Medicaid work requirements and administrative hurdles—over 18,000 lost coverage (over 10 month before it was halted by a judge), no job gains. AR ranks 45th in life expectancy (72.5 yrs) and has high uninsured rates. #medicaid.

By portraying empathy as sin, this rhetoric pressures the public not to care about the harm caused by such lies—because, ultimately, the goal is to justify not wanting these people here. If you disagree with what the president did, it's toxic empathy. /2.

A country that coins terms like "toxic empathy" or frames empathy as a sin is encouraging people to remain indifferent when the president makes blatant false accusations against a group—such as claiming they eat cats and dogs. /1.

If the church is ever going to be effective in this country there will need to be a detoxification of the toxic residue that obstructs the flow of godly qualities (empathy, mercy, compassion, etc) in and through those who call themselves Christians.

Someone said my rant on empathy is just semantics but not being clear about what empathy is gives people the freedom to redefine it however they want—often to justify withholding it from those they’ve decided don’t deserve it. Labels matter. No such thing as toxic empathy.

1 Corinthians 10:14–15:. “Therefore, my dear friends, flee from idolatry. I speaK REASONABLE people; judge for yourselves what I say.”. When it comes to idols It’s hard to reason with unreasonable peole.

The “followers of Jesus” are always searching for exceptions, conditions, or and nuances when the subject has to do with compassion or empathy.

@bookkeepPLUS I grew up poor but we never were on the system. We know alot of people who abused the system. Generationally lived on the system. They were able to work but didn’t want to and got all their needs met on the system. In still see it todayZ denying this is willful ignorance.

Real empathy is the ability to extend compassion even to those you’re tempted to deem undeserving. The “toxic empathy” narrative is just a convenient excuse—a ploy to take the easy way out. It’s not empathy if only extended to those we feel deserve it. That’s EASY.

Emotional absorption without boundaries is NOT empathy. There is no such thing as toxic empathy. If it’s compulsive, self-erasing, or performative—it was never empathy to begin with . Don’t confuse dysfunction with virtue. And stop redefining empathy just to demonize it.

They attack empathy cuz they want you to be ok with policies that harm people. For example it’s why they kept lying about Medicaid recipients just being jobless losers gaming the system. They need you to see the vulnerable as undeserving, so you’ll cheer when help is taken away.

This isn’t about protecting moral clarity. It’s about creating cover for hard-heartedness—so they can justify indifference to suffering without looking like the villain. Don’t fall for the rebranding or their attempt to give you permission to hate or be indifferent. /3.

They reframe compassion as weakness, empathy as dangerous, and concern for others as some kind of moral failure. But there’s no such thing as toxic empathy. What they usually describe HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH EMPATHY. /2.

Over the years, Trump and his allies have strategically worked to undermine empathy, encouraging people to ignore how policies impact vulnerable communities. When we vote, it’s crucial to remember that compassion and empathy should guide our choices, not just self-interest.
