2️⃣ Maybe the business owes you money, and cash is still tight, so you’ll take the money out as repayment for what the business owes you (this one doesn’t count as a dividend).

Why might you have zero SDs? 1️⃣ Maybe cash flow is tight and you could save the cost of SDs by paying yourself a dividend instead (keep in mind there are other consequences of doing that).

And you’re done. It’s that easy. Make sure you do this each period where you have zero source deductions (SD) to remit to CRA. Otherwise they will send you a notification that you haven’t remitted any SDs.

1️⃣ Login to your CRA MBA 2️⃣ Click on your payroll account 3️⃣ Click on Remittances, and then ‘provide a nil remittance’ 4️⃣ Make sure you enter the right date range, then confirm your nil remittance

This can be done directly inside your Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) My Business Account (MBA). Here’s how to do that.
