For decades, workers at @TheStranger, @portlandmercury, @EverOutSeattle, @EverOutPortland and @BoldTypeTickets have fostered an alternative voice in Pacific Northwest media. Today, we have asked the upper management at Index Media to voluntarily recognize our union.

The Daily News just made the change to printing three days a week. The rollout so far has not made us less worried about Lee's short-sighted moves and lack of real investment in our staff. #LeeUnionsRaisingAwareness
Journalists across the country are speaking out this week against destructive business decisions by media chain Lee Enterprises. Chronic disinvestment and @LeeEntNews' latest move to slash daily printing of many newspapers is a recipe for failure. #LeeUnionsRaisingAwareness

Part of why I left the Adams-run Post Register was how long they kept us at less than 40 hours a week. That was June 2021. The idea they're still jerking their Bozeman reporters around on basic fair hours and pay is outrageous.
We've been bargaining with Adams Publishing since July, but they continue to insist on paying their journalist's poverty wages. We need a fair contract now.

Laying off one of our paper's ad reps is bad. Doing it in such a brutally abrupt timeline this morning makes it even worse. I stand with the rest of the Longview NewsGuild and our remaining ads workers.
We were horrified to learn today that @LeeEntNews unceremoniously laid off a member of our advertising staff. She and her colleagues have been fighting to join the newsroom union at the Longview Daily News.

"Over the next five days, Longview School Resource Officer Reece would pose as a special needs student to deceptively ask out the sophomore" Very good reporting from my fellow TDN reporter Matthew to bring this incident to light.

Back in 2014, a local school resource officer began asking out and harassing a 15-year-old student via text. The officer was removed from the school after her mother issued a complaint but remained with the Longview Police until 2023. https://t.co/e8jLzuwG5V

This officer has been on the force for 23 years.

More than 100 people were crossing the Allen Street Bridge in Kelso on Jan. 3, 1923 when it collapsed into the river. At least 20 people were killed. My story on the centennial of one of WA's deadliest disasters:

Tuesday marks the anniversary of the Allen Street Bridge collapse, estimated to have killed 23 people.

Our union is growing! Today, the advertising staff of the Longview Daily News has petitioned to join the Longview NewsGuild. We have asked Lee Enterprises for voluntary recognition of their addition, but absent that, there will be an election in the new year. 1/4

Aaaand one minute after I tweeted that, the Seattle Times called the race for Perez. Hope everyone is ready for even more coverage of this from @the_daily_news, because this will probably not be a quiet next week.

The win sends a Democrat to Congress from a district that has long been Republican.

Over the last three days, Clark County has counted 64,000 votes and Kent gained a grand total of 266 more votes than Perez. He needs to be up 4,500 votes just to tie her.

New results from Clark and Thurston countries in #Wa03 give Kent a net gain of 338 votes out of 16,000 counted today. He would need close to 2/3 of the remaining ballots to break his way, which especially in Clark is unlikely...

Cowlitz County just posted an update for the WA-03 race. Kent gains another 750 votes on Perez, but his rate of gain had dropped compared to yesterday. Clark County will be the deciding factor going forward and tonight's update will be key to figure out Kent's chances.

My estimate is that he needs to beat Perez by at least 4000 votes in the rest of Clark's 45,000 estimated count to catch her. If we don't see a big jump when the count comes out Friday... Kent may be in trouble

Updated voted results from Clark County are a mixed bag for Kent. He gained 126 net votes over MGP, but out of 24,700 that were counted. That's at the low end of the pace he needs for a full comeback, especially with Lewis County almost fully reported.
