Heyyy My first journal publication of the year. It examines the representation of Black African gastronomies in the global media, the ubiquity of Whiteness within the culinary ecosystem, White palatability, the legacies of colonialism and the incessant desire for Whiteness

This is also why the femininity people frustrate me so much because it’s all a performance of softness, helplessness, weakness, and innocence— traits usually found in children and young people.

It’s also pedophilia. Expecting or demanding grown women to be ‘pure’, and ‘untouched’ and linking their worth to their sexuality or how many sexual partners they’ve had is pedophilic. Idealization of childlike innocence in grown women is pedophilic. It sexualizes youth.
purity culture is misogyny. valuing yourself based on how many people you slept with is inherently misogynistic… in the real world nobody cares how many people you slept with & also, nobody will ever know if you’re being truthful or not lol

Now more than ever, it’s crucial to recognize that lived experiences alone is insufficient without feminist theory as its analytical lens. Privileging personal experiences without interrogating the systems that shape them risks reinforcing the same systems we want to dismantle.

I bit into an onion while eating poloo. I need everyone involved to be picked up immediately.

Nothing has radicalized me more than having to share space and read the thoughts of Nigerian men on here. Nothing. Dumbasses.

Ananse dokono is one of the few herbs you can find everywhere. Its flowers however, are my favourite. They permeate the air with a light fragrant lemony flowery smell that is so delicate and beautiful. So I hade to make ananse dokono liqueur and syrup with it.

*update: The passport was delivered today. My interview date was 6th May. I chose the 10 day option. While you can track progress online, they aren’t consistent with the updates. Everything went smoothly. I’m pleasantly surprised. Also picture quality has improved dramatically.

I used high quality akpeteshie — unlike what is sold in Accra. You can use whatever high proof alcohol you have. Let the flowers steep for at least two weeks. I recommend a month. The syrup is quite easy to make: equal volume of sugar to water and as much flowers as you can find

Meeting participant joined right after I threw achomo in my mouth and now they are stuck in my checks and I look like that Anthony Mackie/Janet Jackson photo.

Just rapped Jhus in traffic with a beautiful dark skinned man with the most amazing incredible Afro. I will be launching the Jhus Accra faction soon.

It cost 700ghc for 32 pages. I paid an additional 200ghc(+2ghc) as service fee. My location of choice was the digital/premium center. My appointment was between 9-10am. Everyone was super polite and very helpful.

I renewed my passport and chose the expedited process (10 days). I’ll let all of you know if it works. You can also track the entire process on the mfa website.

What is this nonsense omg????? They’re also undercooking it to get a weird softer texture which also makes it doughy and tough to swallow. Texture is very weird—like an undercooked overworked pie dough.

Millions of pizza dough recipes available and they choose to stick to this crust? It’s even more annoying because based on the texture, they’re adding lard or margarine which inadvertently makes it expensive to produce instead of using salt, yeast, tiny oil, and water.

So papas pizza is still terrible I see. Some things do stay the same. I appreciate deeply the consistency.
