You can support players earning money and believe the system needs structure. Those positions aren’t contradictory—they’re the only way the model becomes sustainable. Players deserve compensation. The sport also deserves rules instead of an arms race of booster collectives.

What we have now is mostly donor-funded payroll disguised as marketing, with no structure, no contracts that resemble a league system, and no regulatory framework. Every serious sports league needs it. College football has none of that, which is why it feels chaotic.

Being critical of NIL collectives ≠ you’re against players getting paid. It means you actually understand what NIL was supposed to be. Real NIL = capitalism. A business pays a player for their name, image, and likeness to promote something. That’s not what we have now…. 🧵
