@NASAARSET @ORNLDAAC @NASA @NASAEarth In October, Cherie Forbes (BioSCape Applications Coordinator) volunteered at Soapbox Science 2024 where she got to ‘take science to the V&A Waterfront streets’. Her talk was titled, “Protecting our planet with images from outer space.”

We hosted our first ever in-person BioSCape field spectroscopy & data skills workshop in collaboration with BioSCape researchers, ARSET, and ORNL-DAAC. It was a jampacked week filled with learning & networking for researchers & practitioners.

Jasper Slingsby, BioSCape co-I and South African Lead based at UCT, took part in the @CapeNature1 #ConservationReview a couple weeks ago. He presented an update on BioSCape and participated in panel discussions on fire and invasive species management.

Happy Valentine’s Day from these love birds and everyone at BioSCape! African Penguins (Spheniscus demersus) are monogamous meaning they breed with the same partner for their whole life. The parents take turns incubating the eggs and feeding the chicks once they are hatched.

Congratulations to the $quality_over_quantity team for winning one of the NASA International SpaceApps Challenge Global Winners awards. This team completed the Explore a Biodiversity Hotspot with Imaging Spectroscopy challenge which BioSCape led.

Last month, @GLOBEProgram and BioSCape team members visited schools in the Western Cape and lead students in activities about biodiversity and remote sensing. Students also participated in citizen science projects focused on cloud cover and sea surface temperature.

Stephan Bellamy (he/him) is a third year student at Vanderbilt University majoring in English and Physics. Stephan enjoys discovering music from around the world, learning new languages, sketching, and photography.
