Rev up another reconciliation bill to protect the filibuster? ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Republicans are revving back up the reconciliation machine as Trump focuses his ire on the filibuster. "Lindsey tells me he supports it," says Sen. Kennedy. "He's going to start budget committee hearings on a resolution ... he told me he's all for doing reconciliation" "one

Miran in a squeaker moves to Federal Reserve Board (keeping White House appointment). He has company at bottom of the chart-- alongside Waller, Cook and Shelton (who fell short). Rising partisanship + 2013 filibuster ban allow slim parties to narrowly seat favored Fed Board picks

FWIW I still can’t find any evidence that the White House has actually sent Miran’s nomination to the Senate. Makes it hard to execute on the ⚡️fast confirmation vote. Tell me if I’ve just overlooked it! https://t.co/FDupSdqbg7
FWIW White House seems eager to fast track Miran to a seat on the Fed, but they don’t appear to have formally sent a nomination to the Senate (unless a tweet counts 😂) https://t.co/rEq85C0KQ7

Miran was an economic policy adviser at Treasury during the president's first term.

Trump's pick of Stephen Miran for a Q4 gig at the Fed Fed increases chances for a swifter (Senate style) confirmation process. Already vetted, party-line vote this past March.

FWIW House took option off the table. Senate needs House consent to adjourn for >3 days in order for POTUS to make valid recess appt (according to SCOTUS 2014). Both chambers agreed to come back every 4th day for pro forma sessions, blocking POTUS from recess appt for Fed gov.
This decision takes off the table the prospect for Trump to fill the Fed governor seat to be vacated this coming week by Adriana Kugler with a recess appointment, which would bypass Senate confirmation.

Now this is a great speech for a POTUS to deliver when he visits the Federal Reserve (in 1937). Watch FDR live! (starts at .22) https://t.co/EkyCufxC0B Or read the whole speech here 🤓 https://t.co/Gd7YIH9zn1

To be clear, *every* Treasury Secretary before Morgenthau wore 🧢🧢 — a seat on the Federal Reserve Board & Treasury Sec. Why no longer? Congress threw the TsySec off the Fed when it rewrote the law in 1935. Didn’t stop meddling in war and post/war interest rates tho!
As auditions to replace Powell intensify, Treasury secretary Bessent, a top contender despite leading the search process, has stepped up his criticism of the Fed in all areas but one: "The Fed’s food is much better" @arappeport

I think these institutional consequences deserve far more attention than they've received-- esp wrt the reputation and relevance of the Senate's neutral expert parliamentarian. This issue matters regardless of one's views about reforming the filibuster!

Senate GOP tactics to make 2017 tax cuts "permanent" required a nuclear move on Senate floor-- weakening authority of the parliamentarian, blowing hole in Byrd Rule, & possibly making future debt crisis more likely. New @goodauth post on fallout from the

Republican tactics seem likely to weaken the Senate – and make fiscal crisis more likely.

framers would have been flummoxed by voting on a "rule"
Johnson heads to the floor. Tells reporters "This is the legislative process. This is exactly how I think the framers intended for it to work. We feel very good about where we are, and we're moving forward." Did not acknowledge shouted questions about whether he has the votes.
