A lot of money has been saved over the last 3-4 weeks with all the free events in Houston.
May 10-11
@ExposureOtr
King of Spring. The weekend before the 1st Live Period, come get some REAL work.
Feel FREE to REGISTER your teams with this link.
HS guards… If you’re under 5’11 and you want to play college basketball.. You must defend your ass off, MAKE A READ, run an offense, make open shots. There are VERY FEW guys 5’11 & shorter that are high volume shot takers at the next level.
I saw my summer teammates commit to Duke, Texas, Baylor, etc and I didn’t want to feel like I wasn’t on their level.. when in reality I wasn’t at the time.. Both UTEP and Tulsa would have been the right “fit” for who I was as a player... and because of it I sat my 1st two years
All my 6’7-6’9 “point forwards”.. I don’t mind you showing your skill set… But you HAVE to rebound the ball on both ends. You initiate offense… COOL. You can hit the 3… COOL.. Push it on the break.. COOL.. Go crash the offensive glass 1st!! Then do that other stuff..
If Peach Jam is the “pinnacle” of grassroots basketball, and a PG is outplaying the other TOP PG’s in the country at the “pinnacle” event, that should make him one of the top PG’s in the country too correct?
It’s Sunday.. Tommy Mason Griffin preached a sermon this week on the
@SloanColdFacts
Podcast on what it takes to be a pro, & why he didn’t have the NBA career everyone thought he would have!

To the “All Lives Matter” people.. yes all lives matter, but we’re talking about BLACK LIVES. Would you go to a Breast Cancer event & scream “ALL CANCERS MATTERS”, Or “What about colon cancer?” No you would not! This is a BLACK LIVES MATTER issue...
Some parents have more excuses than a 1 legged man in an ass kicking contest. It’s the coach, director, media, it’s everybody else’s fault. Sometimes the kids aren’t as good as you think.. or they’re not good enough & sometimes they just have to get better.. which is OK
99.75% of incoming college basketball freshman lack either the SKILL, STRENGTH, TOUGHNESS, DISCIPLINE, MENTAL CAPABILITIES, to come in right away and contribute or impact winning enough to get major minutes. No matter how talented a kid is, it’s just not that easy. I’ll continue
This message is for the class of ‘21.. You guys will in all likelihood not play another game in your grassroots/HS careers w/ college coaches in attendance. So when you’re playing in these events that are streamed, PLEASE play with some urgency, especially defensively.
Do Texas teams need independent circuits like NXT Pro, UA Rise, Adidas Gold, NY2LA? Most of the Texas teams teams who played on these circuits didn’t have coaches @ their games, & had to play in regions where their kids won’t even get recruited. What if Texas had its own circuit?
Once again the most important stat in summer basketball.. MPG.. Every body isn’t built for the circuit.. make wise decisions about your kid’s future.. 7 MPG on the EYBL or 27 minutes on a quality independent team...
I’m going to say this with the utmost respect... just because you’re a good HS basketball player doesn’t mean you’ll play in college.. the intramural leagues at universities are filled with all district guys. There’s a lot of pressure on some kids to play in college..
I almost wish these kids could play on their HS teams during the July live periods. And I’m an event operator so it’s a catch 22 for me even saying this because the more AAU teams the better for me.. But I enjoyed watching kids thrive & excel in this HS team environment
Let’s normalize kids to signing Division II, III & NAIA scholarships. Because the reality is, being a good high school basketball player doesn’t guarantee you a scholarship. It just doesn’t. They are HARD to come by. 60% of NBA front office guys didn’t play Division I basketball
I wish parents were able to watch high level elite summer basketball games so they could understand the difference in “levels” of players. So you don’t get offended when evaluators talk about “levels”. It doesn’t mean your son can’t play. He’s just not that level..
Gas these kids so early, free flights, free rooms, a sense of entitlement gets developed. The kid’s circle gets caught up in it, trying to use the kid, then the kid doesn’t develop, because his circle wanted mixtapes, & the free flights, & middle school rankings..
Gotta give credit to good HS coaches. Managing unrealistic expectations from parents, kids, administration.. People second guessing your every move, while also (most of them) having to teach a class… salute, your work, sacrifice, & dedication doesn’t go unnoticed.
I saw a lot of parents who sacrificed their time, money, & energy to help their kids this weekend too.. Players, you guys need to understand this, & reward your parents by doing your absolute best in school & being responsible at home & in the community.
#PangosFrSophCamp
The UH basketball program has built a juggernaut. New practice facility, new arena, top 25, top 10, sweet 16. That’s all these HS kids have seen. They are too young to even remember Hoffeinz. Great staff, support staff. They have Bilal checking the pulse of the city.. HM program
Young fellas in HS. You guys have your cliques, & crews, the handshakes, videos, etc.. but at that next level it’s about the work and not about the show.. so if you’re not really about that work, cut all that show shit out and get to it.. Nobody has time to coach effort
I pulled up to
@KStateMBB
practice today. The attention to detail, physicality, intentionality is something I want HS players to understand. Big 12 basketball is the best in the country, you have to be locked in everyday. As a freshman REALISTIC expectations are 🔑!
The best HS team in America, the best Culture in America, the best HS coach in America, & two of the best players in America! Wire to Wire! Salute to the champs!
@DuncanvilleBB
Extremely happy for
@DrewSteffe
& his family on his commitment to
@TexasTechMBB
! Mark Adams & his staff getting a top 10 player in the ‘23 class in the state.
A lot of kids think they’re going to come in & get 25 minutes a game as a freshman.. When they haven’t even mastered how hard they have to compete in practice everyday, let alone get minutes in the game.. Listen, get extra work in, & COMPETE at practice everyday & do your job!
How about this... Zhaire Smith was the 22nd rated player in the state of Texas in 2017.. the
#1
rated player in that class is still on the board.. WORK IS UNDEFEATED!
Wesley Yates III deserved to be in that game too. Was better every year, came up big in big games, Texas state champ, state MVP. Winner, PLAYER, competitor. Very tough..
It’s conference play.. rotations are getting shorter, check on those guys who aren’t playing as much or at all right now.. if you have a college basketball player’s ear or in their inner circle. Keep them uplifted and positive.. It can be rough mentally on kids, esp freshman.
I mentioned college coaches & mind games. 1 week my freshman year, I KILL practice Mon-Thursday. Billy Tubbs, my HC, God rest his soul, in front of our whole team says “I need 5 Marcus Sloan’s on the court, you guys see how he played this week!” Game comes on Friday, ZERO minutes
Tramon Mark with a big 8 points and 6 boards off the bench... kid has always been ready.. didn’t cry about his minutes... was just ready when his number was called.. HOUSTON, TX
We ALWAYS talk about D1 players & their accomplishments. Myles Burns, Lamar HS('18) a soph at Loyola New Orleans (NAIA), who is averaging 17 ppg and 9 rpg and is also leading the team in steals. Young fellas has 10 doubles-doubles on the season, AND Loyola is a top 25 NAIA team.
Cy Fair Elite 17’s Girls won Nike National Championship
Fam Elite 16’s Girls won 3SSB Championship
Cooz 16’s won UAA Rise
Defenders 17’s won UAA in ATL
Hoops 17’s Final 4 Peach Jam
Team Temple 17’s Final Four NY2LA
Good work Houston.
I don’t want to kill any dreams.. cuz if you guys make it to the League, nobody will happier than me.. but if you don’t.. we won’t throw you away either.. we as a culture have to encourage kids to understand that using the degree or relationships made in 🏀 is just as important
Can you imagine being the 1st person in your immediate family to graduate college because of basketball.. or even set foot on a college campus because of 🏀.. That changes the generational shift in people’s family.. Speaking from EXPERIENCE
The Mikan drill really helps with keeping the ball high, offensive rebounding, keeping your eyes on the basket, coordination, etc. one of the best drills for young bigs
Class of ‘22, if a college loves you & is a good fit for you, don’t play the “something else bigger is coming” game. If you wait until the spring, the Portal now also plays a part in your recruiting. There will be more players available for college coaches to choose from.

I was all over the place today getting for the events this weekend, then I get a call today Jackie got in an accident at school.. playing around at school and split his eye.. AGAIN.. smh The joys of parenting. Lol It put everything into perspective about juggling life and work:
🗣I don’t know who needs to hear this, but just because you play on Varsity at your high school doesn’t mean you should play 17U shoe circuit basketball.
Shooting, and IQ are so important at the collegiate level. Watching these games today, when you can’t shoot, or have the ability to think & make basketball plays on the fly, athleticism is really null & void.
Young HS guards and wings... if you can’t consistently make 3’s... it’s going to be really difficult for you to play at the next level. Size, & athleticism only get you so far, if you can’t put the ball in the hole from 3, it’s going to be TROUBLE
Big S/O to
@g_robinson1
for really believing in coach Sampson when is wasn’t popular and they didn’t have the new arena.. you started something magical young fella!
#Slaute
Keep representing the city!
The higher the level you play, you learn that basketball isn’t an equal opportunity sport.. It’s best to learn that at a younger age, it will cut down on the headaches and confusion.
I wish I could do a podcast and talk about college basketball & the misconceptions fans, student athletes, & parents have about how easy it is to come and play. Or how easy it is to maintain your grades & be successful on the court, & maintain a social life. So many topics
Young fellas in college, when you go to these alumni events, STOP sitting/hanging w/ your teammates. You’re around them enough.. Go & mingle/talk to the alumni/boosters. These guys own companies, or are executives in companies, & they WANT TO HELP YOU SUCCEED
There’s an “underdevelopment” problem in grassroots 🏀. The obvious solution is to get proper reps and be taught how to play basketball, that costs money.. The other problem is truthfully 90% of the “elite” kids don’t want to pay for the training… it shows at the next level.
Prayers out to the Griggs family.. Parents, cherish these moments with your kids. We get so caught up in the wins & losses & the rankings, media attention, etc. Make sure your kids know how proud you are of them and that you love them! These are memories the will forever keep
A lot of people have asked why I postponed the
@ExposureOtr
Unsigned senior event.
We just felt like it was too soon to be in a gym, even with a small crowd of less than 100 people. With so many people getting infected I didn’t wanna risk the safety of these kids & coaches.
The difference between
@DuncanvilleBB
& 99.4% of the other teams in the state, outside of talent lol. Is the Championship culture. The kids know that by “buying in” to the team concept, individually, they’ll get everything they need & that culture is created by the coaching staff
I’ll say this till I’m blue in the face... getting a scholarship to play college basketball isn’t easy.. it’s not “leisure”, & just because you were a good HS players doesn’t mean you’ll get a chance to play in college. These things are to be applauded.
Houston is showing why it’s so hard to beat Culture in college basketball. When guys are hurt, sick, shots aren’t falling, “Culture” helps you win games. Players know their roles, they’re bought in, guys understand the mission at hand..
Hey, I heard y’all opted out of the playoffs.. I remember when we opted to have a great fall event together.. I hope you’re ok.. Let me know if you need anything.. Games.. A conference home.. anything..
@DuncanvilleBB
If you have a kid in Houston that loves basketball, have them watch the UH vs Duke game tonight. It’s a special time & era for collegiate basketball in Houston. Five straight Sweet 16’s for a program that has one a tremendous job making everyone feel welcome to be apart of this
