CQC published their reports into our maternity services today. QEH good for safety & for leadership. Lewisham good for safety & outstanding for leadership. Given the national context it’s fantastic to get this feedback. Well done colleagues! I’m so proud to be part of LGT.

Wow. We’ve improved in every single one of the 9 domains compared to last year, bucking the national trend. Having been near the bottom just a few years ago, we’re now on the average or top half nationally for 8 of the 9. The LGT tanker is definitely turning!! 2/2

When I opened the email containing national staff survey results, it was heart in mouth time. A year of working so hard just to keep our heads about the water…. 100s of questions summarised in 9 domains. A proxy for workforce culture if ever there was one. 1/2

Really proud to read @CareQualityComm’s new reports into our hospitals – especially as the unannounced visits came on one of our busiest days in December! Still lots of work to do, but the positives show we’re moving in the right direction.

Delighted to announce we’ve received accreditation from the Living Wage Foundation. This means that all colleagues and contractors working on our sites are receiving a minimum of £11.05/hr - the London Living Wage. A journey that we embarked upon almost 2 years ago.

The last few weeks have been tough. V high demand across all our services. Despite lots of planning, at times it’s felt extremely uncomfortable. To front line colleagues, our leadership, & partners: your response has been awe-inspiring. Don’t ever forget, we’re in this together.

We’re committed to leadership across LGT that better reflects the diversity of our workforce & our communities. Whilst more to do, we’re making headway: in past 2 yrs, we’ve gone from 122 senior leaders (8a & above) from BAME backgrounds to 174 - that’s now 34% of our snr leaders

Taking abuse IS NOT part of the job. End of. Approx 100 reported incidents/ mth, real number is much higher. In past 6 months we’ve issued 51 sanctions inc 5 banning orders. 2 people charged, one imprisoned. There will continue to be consequences. Together, we will root this out.

Almost 2 years since the first Covid patient walked through our doors. Since then, we’ve felt the full weight of our local communities behind us, supporting us in so many different ways, willing us on.... including our 8 MPs

Whatever the rights and wrongs of mandatory vaccination for health and care workers, I’m mightily relieved not to be having to dismiss hundreds of my colleagues next week.

The darkest week since LGT was formed 7 years ago. We said good bye to two much loved colleagues, both of whom passed away in critical care in our hospitals. They will not be forgotten.

I can’t deny things are exceptionally challenging... but we are still running urgent & emergency services. Heart attacks & stokes outside of hospital double the usual number, ED presentations with these symptoms much lower. Don’t store up trouble, come to hospital if you need to!

I’m so full of admiration for colleagues who do jobs I don’t have the skills, experience, or resilience for (ie most of them!). Take our Lewisham bladder & bowel team, days spent on catheter and bowel care - upbeat and so passionate about making our patients comfortable & safe.

Highlight of my week? Best night of the year! Our staff awards. Hosted by local celeb Richard Bacon, recognising the amazing contributions so many colleagues have made. Could have handed out the awards 10 times over!

LGBT+ network launch this evening, ambition is to create a truly inclusive workplace where everyone can be who they really are. Already 1000 rainbow badges handed out to colleagues.... more to do: we heard 1 in 7 LGBT+ people don't access healthcare for fear of discrimination

Hospital food doesn't have a great reputation... but that's definitely changing! At our Board today we all ate exactly the same for lunch as our patients, right down to the crockery. The verdict? Very tasty, totally surpassed my expectations! Thank you to @ISSUKComms colleagues!

1st day of our senior leaders developmt programme. Brilliant, >80 colleagues in the same room, talking psychological safety/ speaking openly. How to change culture? Just make sure in our next conversation we listen, are curious, respectful, & open. & then in the next. & the next.
