Most migrant deaths are hushed up and never get reported. If at all, they are reported offline, in the local pages of newspapers. CMID found that over migrant 120 deaths have been reported in India during Jan to June 2024. #migration #migrants #migrantdeaths #CMID

We need measures beyond NREGA to address the livelihood challenges in rural India. At the same time we can increase NREGA wages to 400 and workdays to 300 per year.

Workers come to cities with a hope of earning something, saving something, becoming more resilient to their shocks. But those who engage them in the cities exploit them and generally there isn't anyone to intervene. The India Labourline is evolving as a ray of hope.

#InternationalLaborDay commemorates the historic unity of workers in their struggle for rights. However, for migrant workers, unionisation often falls short, leading to differential pay & exploitation. Integrating them into trade unions is crucial for their rights and welfare.

It is crucial for marginalised communities to seek out destinations offering greater equality, security, and opportunities for social mobility. By exploring newer, more egalitarian destinations, migrants can pave the way for a brighter future for themselves and their families.

Migrants often miss the alerts as the alerts will be in local languages. This results in poor preparedness which in turn results in larger impact. Inclusive messaging can help improve the preparedness of migrant communities.

Resource centres at the destinations help migrants access various services. It would be ideal to keep the location and timing of such centres convenient to them. CMID's centres operate from 1.30pm to 9.30pm and follow a corridor approach in partnership with @GramVikasIN.

Migrant workers, the majority in India's urban workforce, grapple with housing challenges—often residing in open spaces like road pavements and under flyovers. There's a lack of access to WASH facilities, and women and girls face these challenges along with safety concerns. #cmid
