For nearly a decade, @FiveThirtyEight inspired me to think more critically about the country's government and elections and exposed me to incredible ways analyzing and visualizing data. I even reoriented my career toward the value this kind of work brings. Huge loss for all.

If not Bengals then Birds. I’ve made a big turnaround from being a football hater bc I see the joy + community it brings my family and cities. And the team crushed it this time.

"Pop vs soda" at the doctorate level: My good friend Clayton made a fantastic map here as part of his dissertation. It explains why my Midwest/East Coast brain thinks there's a new fast road in town when someone says 'freeway' -- it feels foreign!
Here is a detailed map summarizing my project and my findings (for the US). You can download the full-size file on my website (link in bio), as well as some slides explaining the project, and maps showing the results for some of the most interesting individual variables. (9/9)

How Many #AtlanticYards Apartments Were Rented to Households Earning Under $50,000? https://t.co/4QtAsmOmXd Well, far more than suggested in an otherwise useful table from @BklynSpeaks Still, middle-income units vastly over-represented #PacificParkBK #affordablehousing @bennkeel

@CommEdgeCollab @RepYvetteClarke Key is rising Area Median Income (AMI), plus policy changes that allowed #AtlanticYards #affordablehousing to be broadly defined. One of the many things I miss about the DMV, tho I'm grateful I can still bike to work quickly in Philly.

#AtlanticYards aka @pacificparkbk is a super-complicated story. Thanks to @UrbanOmnibus for the opportunity to distill some of the history. The project remains unresolved.... but the past is crucial. #affordablehousing #BarclaysCenter #Brooklyn @planetizen @CityLab @Shelterforce

Also quite grateful to Urban Omnibus for the opportunity to contribute to a long-form article, as I heavily relied on such pieces in Curbed, the Times, and Norman's blog when first studying AY/PP in 2016. It's useful for many to have all the useful links in one spot!

Inside, I streamlined our Plans and Ownership graphics and developed a new graphic illustrating how there's a skew toward more expensive units (so fewer low-income units) in what has been built for AY/PP's affordable housing so far.

New work~ Was a pleasure working with @UrbanOmnibus and @AYReport to condense 20+ years of Atlantic Yards/Pacific Park development history. A useful catch-up for any nearby Brooklyn resident, Nets fan, large project developer, or housing advocate. https://t.co/2egJaboCYI

Over two decades of twists and turns and promises unmet, one journalist has been keeping a close eye on the saga of Atlantic Yards.

Super-handy illustrations (by Ben Keel) early in a lengthy but valuable article (by @AYReport ) on the story of Atlantic Yards (now Pacific Park) just after the megaproject's 20-year anniversary, published @UrbanOmnibus: https://t.co/yvInpoDqmV

Turns out 7 years of design + data experience makes a difference when approaching the same project. Check out Norman's newsletter this week, where I walk through the revisions to our Atlantic Yards/Pacific Park graphics. I'm curious how others approach isometric graphics, too.
Updating Key #AtlanticYards Infographics to Show Proper Scale https://t.co/7U35qGD2Fv The @pacificparkbk towers, actually, are taller that previously depicted. thanks to @bennkeel

Some new 3D work for @AYReport! See the street-level view of the six unbuilt Atlantic Ave towers of Pacific Park. They are currently under foreclosure and face an uncertain future, despite a 2025 affordable housing deadline for the project’s ~876 remaining income-linked units.
What might Atlantic Avenue look like if/when #AtlanticYards @pacificparkbk gets built out w/6 towers & 3.5M square feet? @bennkeel produced some new (unofficial) renderings & animations, see https://t.co/B6umVbTIBg Towers depend on platform over railyard 1/
