When I was a young radio reporter, @CraigDellimore told me, “You have to be able to get sound out of a meatloaf.” From then on, I carried an arsenal of connectors, pads and turnarounds. His kind advice saved me so many times. Came across these today. Thank you, Craig.

The story of the astronauts who have been stuck in space for months— and have fallen off the radar screen of the public consciousness after an initial omg… it’s so compelling… this cookie decorating party… the stuff of short stories. Also, happy holidays to all of them.
The competition quickly melted away as we all played around and discovered the range of possibilities for icing in zero-g. It opened up a whole new dimension, quite literally, with layer upon layer of icing. And in the end, they tasted even better than they looked!

This is the best summary anyone’s made about Donald Trump’s plans for his second term. It’s lucid, powerful and undeniable. Must-listen! Seriously.

This is utterly heartbreaking. I am thinking of so many great journalists, projects, shows and full hearts that made that station a home to the values and craft that draw us all to this work.

This book by @bbqfranklin is the only book I’ve read multiple times in the last few years. It’s about bbq, sure. But it’s also a story about patience, love, and powers of observation pointed at yourself, the world, craft — and how to nourish those around you with joy.

Wordle gets all the attention. But I’m a quiet fan of letter boxed. If you can do it in two words it’s a good day. This one goes out to @CatrinEinhorn.

The biggest change I’ve noticed on Twitter is that I get a lot less from people I follow — like Stephen King. Instead, I get more viral garbage and videos designed for gawking. I dislike it more and more. And it’s much less useful as a path to the ideas and thoughts of others.

Public radio is a haven for thoughtful people who want to make the world better. My thoughts are with them, the system they hold up, and what they build. I root for you every day. And I am just so very sorry.
Tough day at NPR: Four podcasts canceled, 10 percent of workforce laid off. We'll learn more about who is leaving the network in hours and days to come. My story:

I watched a gentleman — in his late 70s or maybe early 80s — wheel an enormous Costco cart to the register today. Nothing in it but shrimp cocktail, mashed potatoes, chicken salad and garbage bags. That’s incredible willpower and focus.

I have been lucky in so many ways. One of which is to have friends who can write and make things that I know will be illuminating, inspiring and meaningful without reading or hearing a word. This is the latest. And I really can’t wait. Congrats Andrew.
Now that I’m (gratefully) no longer allowed to make further tweaks to the manuscript, I’m ready to formally holler into the digital abyss: My first book, The Country of the Blind: A Memoir at the End of Sight, is coming out this summer from @penguinpress!! “Thread emoji”

Roughly 190 nations, aiming to halt a dangerous decline in biodiversity, agreed to preserve 30 percent of the planet’s land and seas. The United States is not officially a participant.

This morning, I opened my email, and my 11-year-old had sent me a QR code. I scanned it. He’d rickrolled me. It was the best.

I was listening to this in the car with my 8-year-old. When we got out, she was begging for my phone so she could finish it. Now she's in the kitchen insisting that @CatrinEinhorn listen to it, and saying, "So cool right? Right?" Lulu Miller. So cool. Always.
