I spoke to Scott Ian of Anthrax, Randy Blythe of Lamb of God, Brann Dailor of Mastodon, Lita Ford, Joe Duplantier of Gojira, Matt Baty of Pigs x7 and Mick Box of Uriah Heep about Ozzy Osbourne. Great testaments to his brilliance, and to the power of metal.

One of the best British debuts in ages - spry, funky, expert sound design but also powerfully human. Every single track operating on such a high level 👏👏👏👏👏.
Demdike Stare’s DDS label with a standout debut album from NZO, distilling 2-step UKG, R&B x computerised funk, adjacent to mutant jungle and footwork. RIYL SND, Rian Treanor, Beatrice Dillon, Rodney Jerkins, Groove Chronicles, Akufen… 🔥.

I wrote about @_jakemuir's transportive new album Campana Sonans, constructed from field recordings of church bells in England and Germany.

The American found-sound artist’s new album captures all the delight and drama of European bellringing, as he manipulates field recordings into drifting 20-minute works

I spoke to @BiffyClyro and @eisenbergsounds for this piece with songwriters digging into what made Brian Wilson such a singular genius. Thank you @davesimps0n for doing the other chats!.

I met @theweeknd in New York to discuss his path to the top of pop, the "hell" of making "half-baked" The Idol, and the panic and abandonment issues he confronted in making new film Hurry Up Tomorrow.

Thanks @phinjennings for this one on his Guardian debut!.
Super important piece on uber-wealthy ownership of grassroots club culture and how experimental, diverse lineups are increasingly being supported by nepotism money.

To clarify this a bit – we're not actually scaling back the Guardian's own music coverage, in fact we're slightly expanding it. But the Observer's separately commissioned music coverage was on the Guardian site, and that coverage will now move to Tortoise Media.
The @guardian is scaling back its music coverage following the sale of Sunday sister newspaper @ObserverUK.

Ridiculously great record with some of the best guitar playing/ideas I've heard in ages. The way Kullawada "Awila" builds and builds and then finds another gear at 8.39. Truly levitational business.
For @pitchfork I wrote about the extraordinary debut from Los Thuthanaka, the duo of Chuquimamani-Condori & Joshua Chuquimia Crampton. It’s one of the most inspiring albums I’ve heard; chuffed that it’s my first BNM review. Pretty nice score too, huh.
