My new apron is adorned w/ my great great grandfather’s eagle design from a late 19th century bentwood box, made by the talented Yolanda Skelton. I can’t describe how it makes me feel, the connection to self. Wearing next week at a family potlatch will be medicine for the soul.

1893 Namu opened its first fish cannery. In 1923 it was bought by B.C. Packers & transformed into a complex of salmon & herring processing plants, whs’s, a power plant & 3 distinct camps dividing Indigenous, white & Japanese workers. This is my mom she worked at the cannery.
