THREAD ABOUT COSPH:
Hi, all – apologies for the long wait. In this thread, I will share the final responses from CosPH regarding the open letters that were sent to them on January 15, 2024, as well as regarding the CosCarni raffle for artist alley slots.
#CosplayPH2024
🧵(1/?)
OK that's it, I'm going to draft a statement that we can joint sign! If you are a PH artist who will be affected by this increase in con fees, and/or if you have thoughts and feelings you want to share with the organizers, reply/DM me. Feel free to share 🤟
Please don’t get mad at artists if ever they increase their product prices. Event org. are milking us dry with their overpriced rents.
This is the Cosplay ph 2024 rates.
I’ve tabled 4 events last year which costs me 35k but if I ever booth at 4 cons again, I will now pay 46k 💀
Here are the open letters for

organizers, re: the new rate increase & other concerns held by artist alley exhibitors at upcoming CosPH events.

Can we collectively start a petition or something? These fees are genuinely ridiculous in this economy, I don't know any artist who is satisfied about this rn :/
If you're into ~subtle merch, I'll also have heart-shaped button pins with Krisis if-you-know-you-know quotes (surprise in the doodles) and 'Touchdown!' stickers (they're holographic!) 🔥 (2/2)

Hi all, update on the statements/open letters to be sent to Cosplay PH, but I need your help:
The statements have been written and I am prepping the Google Forms so people can sign them, BUT the final thing I need is complete info about FanFair rates from 2022 and 2023. This is
Stickers and prints I'll be selling at
#POTASpringBlossoms
this weekend with all proceeds going to relief and aid efforts for Palestine! I have G'raha and Aymeric quotes from FFXIV, Warrior Cats and Watership Down, and a print of a photo I took of the sea 💚

To recap, the open letters raised several major concerns from the community, namely:
1) the increased FanFair (artist alley) table fees for 2024, and the fact that no prior notice regarding the increase was given to applicants; (2/?)
Additionally: if you tabled at any of these Cosplay PH events last year and can speak to the fees then vs. now, how you felt about the artist alley setup (anything you were dissatisfied with, because I'm seeing some people talk about small tables not worth the fee), or anything
Open letters and testimonials have been sent to CosPH!!! For transparency, here's the email that I sent as well :) thank you once again to EVERYONE who helped with this, your words matter!

Genuinely can't believe I have to add to this thread already but apparently they suddenly announced McDo is a sponsor for CosCarni and none of the exhibitors were informed until today.
hello, please take my humble offering of a postcanon kakehai (+kakeru dealing with haiji moving out of aotake) fic, that is set at christmas but which i only just finished 😂 thank you pia for comming me, this was such a journey to write <333
I personally am disappointed by what I feel is a distinct lack of professionalism on CosPH’s part, and I am angered on behalf of the artists who deserved at the very LEAST the bare minimum of consideration and proactive communication, but received none. (31/?)
maraming salamat sa lahat ng mga mandirigma ng liwanag who came by our small post-HeWo party on NA last night! kitakits again soon 💖

So, another non-update: Coscarni begins tomorrow. This entire past week,
@cosplayph
has straight up not answered ANY messages or questions in their Discord, even though exhibitors have been continuing to ask about possible refunds and for answers re: the McDo sponsorship:
2) the malfunctioning website which caused, and continues to cause, applicants to be unable to secure slots at all, and;
3) the overall lack of proactive communication between CosPH organizers & the community. (3/?)
To be clear: I am simply sharing this information so that artists, cosplayers, con attendees, and invited guests can see how CosPH organizers choose to respond (or in this case, not respond) to legitimate concerns from their community. My opinions are my own, and (33/?)
this feels like a good time to post a preview of the stickers/charms i've been working on: ARMIS but make them ALL Pinoy

The changes CosPH has planned for 2024, as I said, do have the potential to be value-adding for artists – but imo these are relatively negligible. They claim to want to “continue listening” but can’t provide what artists have actually been asking for, like a working site. (32/?)
Ten years ago, the average con table fee was 1.5-2k. I was able to earn out by selling merch that cost around P50-100 per item (my poster-size prints cost P100).
Table fees now have increased tenfold but would anyone buy a print that costs P1,000 🙃 they want artists to starve
Please don’t get mad at artists if ever they increase their product prices. Event org. are milking us dry with their overpriced rents.
This is the Cosplay ph 2024 rates.
I’ve tabled 4 events last year which costs me 35k but if I ever booth at 4 cons again, I will now pay 46k 💀
this is not a call for any specific action. What I *would* like this to be is a call for accountability, because I and many others believe that
@cosplayph
can and should do better by its customer base. (34/35)
Exhibitors in the CosPH Discord have been asking organizers to address the McDo sponsorship, as well as asking for refunds for their slots. No reply yet as of 7 pm today. Coscarni is in less than a week.
COSPH & MCDO Exhibitor POV as of 7pm Sunday
Screenies from the merchant chat of the CosPH discord after a day of the announcement that the organizers announced Mcdo as a sponsor
No reassurance or any replies at all to our concerns even w how much it negatively impacts the event
before CosPH confirmed the number of IDs would remain at 2.
Again, this demonstrates neither proactive communication nor consideration for artists on CosPH’s part. Artists had to hound them for an answer, only to be given no reason as to why their request was denied. (22/?)

A few notes:
- These letters will be permanently accessible, while the forms will remain open for signing until January 15, Monday, 9:00 AM. By that time the forms will close, all signatures will be appended to the letters, and they will be formally sent to Cosplay PH organizers.
So.
Based on the way that the CosPH organizers have consistently refused to give me a straight answer – by answering less pressing questions but saying absolutely nothing about our main concerns, and by linking me to an article irrelevant to the issues at hand – (28/?)
While these are arguably value-adding for artists, please recall that in our letters we asked for more proactive communication, more transparency re: what necessitated the AA fee increase, further consideration by lowering AA fees if possible, and a functional website. (18/?)
This article that I was directed to addressed none of these things. This was, in my opinion, in NO WAY an adequate response to the extremely valid concerns of the community – esp since many artists in the community *were* willing to discuss compromises with the organizers. (19/?)

, i'll be opening my eatery/cafe rp venue The High Note tonight starting at 10pm PH time! feel free to drop by Bryn Mist W19, Topmast Apt 40 for some rp coffee, kakanin, and halo-halo 💕
Multiple artists in the CosPH Discord said that they would understand the fee increase if improvements and small concessions were made to offset the cost. Common suggestions were larger tables, and 3 included IDs per table instead of 2. (20/?)
Thank you so much to everyone who helped put this together. 💚
Please sign the letter/s if you are so inclined, and please RT and share to help circulate. Here's hoping for a positive outcome for everyone involved.

- Re: the email that was sent out by Cosplay PH organizers earlier today, January 8 -- we are aware of it and have read that email in full, and these open letters acknowledge and address that email as well.
- There is an optional field at the end of each form for testimonials, where you may write any other thoughts or concerns that you wish to send to the organizers. These will be compiled in a separate community testimonials document which will be sent along with the open letters.
has additionally been received poorly by the CosPH organizer who is also the site developer. When the site was criticized he took it personally, even though the criticism came from artists who were understandably frustrated at the inconvenience and the lack of change. (24/?)
and based on the way they have been responding to feedback and requests in the CosPH Discord, I am forced to conclude that the organizers have no further intention of addressing our grievances the way they said they would. (29/?)
The organizer initially said that they “could accommodate” the 3 IDs per table, and that ideas that the artists shared were “being reviewed.”
However, the next time people inquired as to whether there was an official announcement about the IDs, it took multiple follow-ups (21/?)
i am serious about this btw; if PH artists want to get together to write a statement and demand fairer fees, i'll help organize it. you are part of the lifeblood of local cons and you deserve so much better.
@flatbunnyprints
Can we collectively start a petition or something? These fees are genuinely ridiculous in this economy, I don't know any artist who is satisfied about this rn :/
Over the next couple of weeks, I continued to wait for a response. During that time, I was made aware that artist alley slots for Cosplay Carnival (CosCarni) had opened, but that this year the application process had been switched to a raffle system. This system meant that (7/?)
CosPH announced on Jan 26, only a few days before applications opened, that they WOULD be implementing a raffle system for CosCarni 2024.
Artists in the CosPH Discord reiterated that they did not want this, but the raffle still pushed through on Feb 2. (9/?)
I emailed both open letters to the CosPH organizers on January 15. I was initially given no acknowledgement at all that they had been received, so I followed up on January 29, two working weeks after I first sent them.
This was the reply I got to my Jan 29 email. (6/?)
On Feb 2, the website was still buggy and as a result, many applicants were again unable to secure slots. Supposedly, there were 107 available AA slots, but there were only 70 successful entries that made it in via the website, and only 41 raffle winners. (10/?)
So not only has it been 10 business days with no reply to or acknowledgment of our letter to CosPH, apparently they've implemented a raffle system for AA tables at Coscarni that literally all the artists already said they did not want. lmao
#CosplayPH2024
off to a great start
AA applicants would be selected randomly, rather than on a first-come-first-serve basis or via screening process. This raffle system was suggested in the CosPH Discord before (see screenshots, names redacted), but consensus at the time was that it was a bad idea. However, (8/?)
“We have been looking for solutions but current solutions are inadequate.” This is obvious, bc the website does not work and hasn’t for some time. People need to know exactly *what* is currently being done to improve it, and what *alternative* can be used in the meantime. (27/?)
- There will now be two joint statements that I plan to send to the CosPH organizers: one from artists/merchants, and one from con attendees/supporters. This is to help the two different subsets of the community express their concerns more appropriately and specifically.
The response CosPH gave me mainly addressed the new concerns I brought up about CosCarni; it did NOT address the content of the open letters.
I said this in my next email to them, which I sent on the same day, but I received no reply after this. (14/?)
Re: the website, they claim they are “conducting updates” and “finding solutions to [their] service mishaps” – but these issues are the same ones that users have been experiencing for years, and there has been little observed improvement since then. Screencaps from 2023: (13/?)
This means that there were MORE than enough available slots for all of the applicants who successfully entered the raffle on the site. If that was the case, then all 70 entrants should have automatically been able to get a slot – but they didn’t. (11/?)
To summarize, the article says that the changes they’ll be implementing for FanFair artists this year are:
- flags in the AA area
- interactive maps and floor plans
- online catalogs and stores, and
- the return of ID lanyards. (17/?)
Their response was to link me to an article on their site entitled “2024: Year of Innovation for Exhibitors!”, which they said had also been sent out to all FanFair exhibitors. The link is below, but I'll also post the screenshots of what it says. (16/?)
My final follow-up email to CosPH was sent on March 1, in which I said that we had received no clear communication as to when and how our concerns would be addressed.
This was their response. (15/?)
I would also like to reiterate that feedback regarding the non-functioning website, which users have repeatedly been bringing up to CosPH since 2022, has not resulted in any significant improvements on the site and (23/?)
else that you think is relevant, please let me know. I think that would help a lot. Thanks so much; let's keep sticking up for better treatment for artists ❤️
I am aware that we were not, strictly speaking, owed a response to our open letters, and that it has always been the prerogative of the organizers as to whether they will fulfill our requests or not. However, (30/?)
CosPH has stated they are open to ideas, but when Google Forms was suggested as an alternative to the website, due to GForms having worked in the past, they refused to consider it. According to them, this is because GForms would allow “delinquent applicants” and would have (25/?)
I'll update this thread ifwhen the organizers reply, but for now I just wanted to say--to the artists, SO many of the attendees said in their testimonials that you are one of the biggest reasons why they go to cons at all. Don't ever doubt your worth 💕
@stay_cazual
Thank you!! :') I'll most likely be opening PH preorders after the con this weekend, and I'll try to gauge interest for international orders if there's enough of a demand! You can DM me if there's anything you're interested in :)
To everyone messaging me: thank you so much for sharing your thoughts! I'm currently sorting through a lot of people's messages so I'm a little swamped, but just to clarify a few things:
Apropos of absolutely nothing lol
@PatronsOTArts
is an incredible organizer! They have a truly people-first approach to running their events, they're fantastic at communicating with the artists and vendors in their community, and even when there are minor mishaps
“no filtration”. (My question: if CosPH had proceeded with the raffle, which would award slots to random applicants, wouldn’t that also have been “no filtration”?)
CosPH acknowledged the site issues, but were vague re: solutions and offered no alternatives. Acc to them: (26/?)

because I am including a table that shows the increase in FanFair rates for tables, shelled booths, and extra exhibitor IDs over the past 2-3 years, to better support our statements.

- The statements themselves are still in the process of being drafted, because I want to be sure I have as much information as possible.
- When the statements have been completely drafted, I will not send them right away. I will release a Google survey form where you will be able
Update as of 1/29/24: I've gotten an initial reply just to confirm receipt of the letters and to say they "acknowledge the grievances and will try [their] best to address the concerns." Will wait for a complete response.

my mom has zero clue what ffxiv is about, only the vague idea that it is A Fantasy--so every time she passes by and sees me playing it she says, in a tone of fond exasperation, "oh, you and your wizards"
