And in that spirit, I really think this is going to be one of the most advanced sessions yet and I absolutely cannot wait to be a part of it and work through the curriculum with the applicants. I always get so much out of these sessions; I learn way more than I teach, every time.

One of the main things I kept letting people know is that the reading group isn't a shit test, it's a microcosm of our theory of political education and in a higher-philosophical sense, our views on how knowledge and freedom work together. We are all there for mutual development.

Not only that, though, but I hope and expect that there will also be sympathizers who are aligned with our points of unity but will have experiential criticisms of MUG-in-action borne out of mutual struggle that they hope to bring to their work in MUG, as we did (and do) in DSA.

Now, those that are coming for our politics are people who have seen the concrete substantiation of those politics at strata broad and narrow across DSA. They've engaged with us as a formal body in the Fight for Democracy and they've learned why the fuck MUG wins. That rocks.

I believe from what I'm seeing/hearing now after 2025 Convention is that yes, people are still coming for MUG's dedication to worker-intellectualism, to member democracy, to our programmatic vision of partybuilding (not to even mention the Constitution. But there's something new.

The last cycle brought a new 3rd gen who have seen well-organized and considered interventions from MUG units in DSA working bodies and chapters and appreciate the cultural aspect of our party prescriptives, our vision of deliberative democracy - heralding this cycle, I hope.

After 2023 Convention, a 2nd gen. DSA members impressed by our bold proposals (mostly unagendized; splashy online, gone from the floor) or the relative surplus of our textual interventions: agitation articles, 3 days of the bulletin, on-the-fly reflections, the Blue Book, etc.

MUG wasn't oriented in the DSA yet and we had cultural struggles initially; we were very much still on the fringes when I joined - NYC-MUG was the cell, but as a caucus we hadn't seen successes in applying or even inculcating our aims just yet - we joined for an idea, really.

I wasn't a founder of MUG, but I'm an oldhead, that first gen of recruits who came for a yet-unrealized theorization of how to transform DSA into a viable mass proletarian party center, working thru it as you would a Marxist party in the classical sense & applying merger formula.
