Great reference. The reason this happens is that the higher levels of melanin in darker skin prevent the photons from traveling or scattering as far into the skin, which reduces the translucency effect. If you’re using a physically-based SSS shader, it may account for this.
@TEKKEN I photographed this resource for any artist interested. A white hand over light shows more subsurface scattering, while a dark hand shows more specular response. Capturing this makes character art feel stronger.

I love reading books written by Ann Rice. In both Interview with Vampire and Vittorio the Vampire, she takes her time describing artists and love for art, it just warms my soul And Ann does it so beautifully, i always find myself savoring each word in her books
