An early morning snap of the Cloghmore Stone from the Covid-avoiding days of October 2021. The huge granite boulder is a popular attraction, its position overlooking Carlingford Lough and the Cooley Mountains making it a magnet for sightseers and photographers. #countydown

On the western shoulder of Slieve Commedagh sits the Pot of Legawherry, a corrie wherein lies the source of the Spinkwee River. The river snakes down through a beautiful gorge, then under Hore's Bridge, Spinkwee Bridge and Altavaddy Bridge to its confluence with the Shimna River.

A blast of warm sunshine on this afternoon's walk brought out the butterflies, with buddleia living up to its reputation as a butterfly attractor. The blackberries were ripening fast. Can't remember the last time I had a ripe, juicy blackberry in July. #Ballynahinch #countydown

Quick dander over the fields to take advantage of some afternoon sunshine in #ballynahinch #countydown. Great to be able to see some of the old farming artefacts still around to remind us of the older days. Meanwhile, the Mourne Mountains continue to enchant.

An interesting view of Slieve Commedagh from Rocky Mountain. At 767m, Commedagh is the second highest peak in the Mourne range, runner-up to Donard's 850m. Rocky Mountain is a mere 405m, but the views from its summit are superb, belying its modest stature. #countydown #mountain

A view of Slieve Lamagan from Dunnywater catchment area. A tunnel to the left of this picture diverts water from the Annalong River under Slieve Binnian to Silent Valley Reservoir. The 2.5 mile tunnel was built between 1947 and 1951 by a workforce of 150. #countydown

Slievemoughanmore in the western Mourne Mountains. The westerners are much quieter than their eastern neighbours and Slievemoughanmore is one of the quietest as it takes a bit of a trek to get to it. It'll be just you and the sheep. I've also seen lizards and pigmy shrews there.

The Sallagh Braes, Antrim Hills. A very pleasant walking area with views across the basalt cliffs to the valley below and beyond to the Irish sea. Apparently, the local area featured in the Game of Thrones. Linford Car Park off Feystown Road is a popular starting point.

St John's Point church #countydown reckoned to be of 10th or 11th century vintage, the stone construction most likely replacing an earlier wooden church. The view that greeted its worshippers was probably roughly the same as it remains today, with maybe more trees back then.

Looking back at the village of Dundrum #countydown from Dundrum Bay, from a lovely spot in among the marram grass and the golden sand. If you look carefully, the 13th century castle is visible sitting on a hill overlooking the village and the Irish Sea.

The Mourne Mountains viewed from Keel Point, Dundrum #countydown. Keel Point is one of several access points to @NTMurlough. Visitors can either take the road up to the boardwalk or, more interestingly, turn left after the bridge and follow the coast the whole way to Newcastle.
