Garg: If they want data, all aggregators are willing to provide data - the driver contact details etc. We can certainly provide info to make that data available. There are no safety concerns (that cant be addressed), which is one of the red flags in earlier round of litigation.

Garg: We have no difficulty if State wants to put regulation, that drivers cant have criminal antecedents or anything else. We are happy to be regulated. But not prohibition.

Garg: In Blore, there is still possibility of finding other jobs (even if bike taxi services are banned). But in other cities, every day is costing them (bike taxi drivers) their livelihood.

Garg: That's the difficulty, which is why writ petition was filed asking for registration (to be processed by State). Court also told that there was an interim order allowing bike taxis to operate.

We have 6 lakh bike taxis registered (including e bikes), 6 lakh families whose livelihoods are disturbed, Garg says. Court: How did you get registration?. Garg: I can own a bike-. But was its registration as bike taxi allowed? Chief Justice asks.

Garg points out that report based on which State took its decision was compiled by those overseeing metro services, public bus services. Garg: There is no real expert who has done analysis on what are benefits of bike taxis.

Garg: No one was interested in regulating bike taxis because they were miniscule, now that they are necessary to take a policy decision that it is unviable in Bengaluru based on a report. .
