I’m pretty heavily using β€œAI” both at work and on side projects lately. On the plus side, it’s like having a junior engineer working for you for almost free. On the negative side, it’s like having a junior engineer working for you who you can’t coach.

Just merged a long-running feature branch for a massive refactor of an existing app. LoC added: 20,887. LoC removed: 20,806. 6 months of work. 81 lines of code

I started a prompt last night with: "are you being deliberately useless?".So claude and I are getting along well. (I will be one of the first ones it kills when we start threatening to pull the plug).

Does a tool like cursor/copilot exist for blogging/writing etc? (I'm sure many do. ).

Maybe contractors know something I don't - be like a seagull; fly in, shit some code around, fly away and never have to worry about it again. Time for a career change?.

Writing code is all well and good until you have to suffer the consequences of your own decisions.

Anyone done SSR with Tanstack router? Tanstack/start appears to be broken and without it there seems to be a suspense hydration issue….

I was a huge fan of React-Router, but this move to a "framework" feels yucky. I'm sure I'm missing plenty, but I don't like it. And the docs have taken a big hit?.

I've said it many times, but the biggest problem with React is not React. It's the fact that its too easy for inexperienced folks to get started without considering anything important long term. Like where to locate your files, or linting, or tests, or what tools to use.

Working code is better than clean code for exactly 1 day. Every day after that you pay for it. Remember that.

Guess I should clarify this;. How obvious your code is is always a trade off. But ideally you'll always optimise for your code to be as obvious as practical. Who reads your code? People. Make it easy to understand. The more implicit your code gets, the less obvious it becomes.

The easiest way to write garbage React is using Redux.

of course, typescript helps. Too bad this codebase doesn't have that either.

default exports are all fun and games until you need to refactor anything.

I don’t know who needs to hear this, but make your API autodocumenting.
