How much should this 7th grade ELA teacher get paid? . This is my son’s worksheet. When I asked how this was an ‘A’, I was informed spelling and sentence structure wasn’t important, only context. The principal stood by the teacher. The school so defends her use of audiobooks
Teacher pay is too low, and so is respect for the profession. Thank you to Rio Rancho School Employees Union President Billie Helean for showing what’s possible when educators organize. For the first time, many in her district are earning a living wage.

@GuntherEagleman There are literally thousands of teachers who have been paying union dues against their wishes and would gladly opt out if they have the option.

Fear of retaliation is a huge reason why schools get away with so much.
If parents in the Troy Schools District are too intimidated to file state or federal complaints due to fear of retaliation, I’m more than happy to step up and file one to ensure every child’s rights to evidence-based curriculum and instruction are protected. @mieducation.

We have not ignored this, we have talked about this endlessly and told to downplay academic learning since the second I entered education. SEL is in the timetable, it’s consumed our limited PD time, and it’s bolted on to every single initiative by career climbing administrators.
