Everything I’ve seen on this mobilization so far points to Yakutia, Saha, Buryatia, Dagestan, Chechnya being mobilized in disproportionately large numbers. If this bears out, no question this is a systematic effort to deploy Russia’s ethnic minorities as cannon fodder.

What a story: last week, Lithuanian citizens crowdfunded $6m to buy a Turkish drone for Ukraine. They signed an agreement yesterday. A few hours ago, the Bayraktar manufacturer announced they will give the drone for free, said the money should be used for humanitarian aid.

The only reason the Russian empire didn’t have a colony in Africa was because they tried and failed (in Djibouti). To be clear, Russia did have colonies all across Eurasia and N. America. It was a colonial power that never admitted its past, let alone reconcile with it.

Russia left the Soviet Union on Dec 12, 91. Kazakhstan, the last to leave, left on Dec 16. Which means for 4 days Kazakhstan WAS the Soviet Union. (USSR was formally dissolved on Dec 26). So then shouldn't Kazakhstan be the successor state to USSR and entitled to the UNSC seat?

A big shift in Turkey’s rhetoric about the Russian invasion of Ukraine: Turkey is now calling it a war. That grants it ability to restrict movement of Russian non-Black Sea vessels through the straits. NATO should explicitly state we are standing by Turkey, its NATO ally.

In Dagestan, people have blocked roads in protest of the mobilization. Dagestan has already lost a disproportionately large number of its male population in the war.

Japan kicked out 8 Russian diplomats. The remarkable thing about this is that they are doing this specifically because of the Russian war in Ukraine. This may be the only time I’ve seen a government is mentioning Russian propaganda as one of the reasons for expulsion. Superb.

In a free election in Ukraine, not a single far-right party made it into the parliament; the country has a Jewish president and for some time was the only country outside of Israel that had a Jewish president AND prime minister. To be clear, just like any country, Ukraine

I will not share the images from the Russian attack on Kharkiv tonight but all I can say it looks apocalyptic. I am not even exaggerating. Kharkiv is the second largest city in Ukraine. Everyone responsible are war criminals.
