We hope these visualizations help convey the severity of the distortions in PMO and the need for effective treatments. If you know someone who's experienced facial distortions, he'd love to hear more: .

Because of this, we could use a procedure that allowed him to compare a face seen in person with its photo on a screen. We modified this photo in real time until it matched his perception. More about the procedure and the case here (3 min):.

PMO is extremely rare, with fewer than a hundred cases reported, and it can affect the shape, texture, position, and color of faces. This patient's case, however, is even more unusual: every face seen in real life appears distorted, but not faces seen on a screen or on paper!.
