Glad to see this research highlight in @NatureInd on our recent work. The current 2.3.4.4b clade #H5N1 is unusual and spreading rapidly in mammals and shows human adapting potential, a #OneHealth concern, needs more attention.

A new study by researchers at IISc offers insights into cell death regulation by viruses like SARS-CoV-2, and how bats and humans respond differently to tricks that such viruses use to manipulate the hostβs defense. https://t.co/9R3r92bkBY

Our recent work: Identified #viralRHIMs in RNA viruses originated from #bats, including SARS-CoV-2. Viral RHIM in SARS-CoV-2 #Nsp13 shows distinct cell death regulation in bat and human cells. Also, associated with Z-RNA sensing and #ZBP1-RIPK3 signaling.
Elated to share our work reporting functional #viralRHIMs in bat-RNA viruses and their regulation of ZBP1-RIPK3-associated cell death, now out on @iScience_CP. Huge thanks to @keshu_VRimmCh for guidance,@Disha__dak,#Ayushi for their efforts.@CellPressNews

New work: Decoding non-human mammalian adaptive signatures of 2.3.4.4b #H5N1 to assess its human adaptive potential. We aim to understand the non-human mammal adaptations of panzootic 2.3.4.4b H5N1 and assess the human adaptive potential of 2.3.4.4b H5N1 https://t.co/ycemfv3u0b

The recent panzootic 2.3.4.4b clade H5N1 infected diverse non-human mammalian species globally, showed mammal-to-mammal transmission among them and caused sporadic human infections. However, whether...

This discussion might need few more facts to considers. First, the 2.3.4.4b H5N1 is a novel strain. Got new changes on surface proteins (HA and NA). H5 HA shows 6 or 7 glycosylation site (GLS) patterns unlike previous strains having 8-9 GLS. https://t.co/sgNo7kkMzA.

Nature - Older populations might be more protected than younger ones because of exposure to βmatchedβ strains during childhood, but an H5N1 pandemic is likely to take a major toll all the same.

2.3.4.4b #H5N1 has been spreading rapidly & infected several #mammal species, including #cattle. This work reveals molecular virologic factors leading to 2.3.4.4b H5N1 emergence & a new molecular program deciding avian flu HA & NA pairing. @iiscbangalore
Our new work attempting 2 important questions: Why did 2.3.4.4b clade #H5N1 emerge as a highly pathogenic panzootic virus, which has not been achieved by previous viruses? Is the pairing of avian influenza HA and NA stochastic or molecularly programmed? https://t.co/mPnb9XEfhj
