I hope no one reading this had any tokens on bit forex. Id imagine that Garrett will come forth with an update/ option soon. Hopefully everything is okay. But, its not looking great. Never ever trust an exchange. This isn’t TD Ameritrade. Crypto exchanges are a whole other.

As an add-on to this post. By using wallet instead of MM it has approval revoking built right into the UI. Just click the approvals button and itll show you all approvals across all chains and you can revoke one by one very easily. Strongly recommended.

Every single person who uses a web3 wallet and does anything on a dex or in Defi needs to be doing this regularly. I personally try never to go more than 2 weeks without clearing every single approval on ever single wallet I have. Stay safe out there my friends.

On a regular basis visit a website like or use rabby wallet and you can revoke these approvals ensuring that, atleast that one particular threat vector is closed off.

Should one of the contracts that you approved become compromised or somehow turn to the dark side then whoever holds the keys can siphon your tokens up to the approval amount. So what is the solution to this?.

In 99 cases out of 100 this isn't really a problem because you are dealing with contracts that aren't malicious. However, it is still a contract that can in theory spend your tokens without you needing to do anything more. šŸ‘‡.

For ease of use and to prevent people having to approve every TX the dexes often have you do one approval for a crazy amount like 500000000000 to ensure that you dont need a new approval the next time you want to swap. From a business standpoint and ease of use this makes sense.

To allow a smart contract to spend your tokens you have to first grant an approval. This basically says that I'm allowing contract XYZ to spend my tokens. This happens for all sorts of reasons but primarily when you swap on a dex. šŸ‘‡.

Today is my bi-weekly approval revoking day. On occasion I make a post about it because in my experience the amount of bad opsec in crypto is crazy and tons of people dont even know what approvals are. much less why they should revoke them regularly. TLDR; use.
