So many emotions all at once!!! On December 6, I became a Doctor in Astrophysics and I am so very grateful to everyone who has been a part of this journey since the 11-year-old me wanted to get a PhD in 'astro-stuff'. Here is a digital copy of my thesis:

It's also probably a good time to say that I will continue doing Galactic archaeology as a Canadian Institute for Theoretical Astrophysics (CITA) National Fellow in University of Victoria, Canada.

Like my other works, I am strong believer in open science, and the two catalogues of giants described in this work will be made publicly available along with the paper's acceptance. I thank all my co-authors from the Pristine collaboration, especially @astrobystrom and Else!.

We can also look at the beautiful metallicity distribution (correcting for all the underlying biases), how it varies at larger distances, and look at the metallicity view of integrals-of-motion space. But really, the catalogues can be used for so many more cool science!

The outer halo is made up of many substructures, one of my favourites being the Pisces Plume, part of which could be tentatively associated to the Magellanic stellar stream. PS these are all very metal-poor, [Fe/H]<-2.5. Stay tuned for more updates from our Gemini/GHOST follow-up

We can also pick out several accretion events on the integrals-of-motion space where phase mixed debris conserve their orbital properties. The Galactic halo is definitely a messy eater!!

Now its time to do some cool science with these outer halo stars. We see how rich the metallicity distribution is, as a function of height above the disc plane, the outer halo is not smooth!!

We select giants using the absence of a well-measured parallax. We infer photometric distances using BaSTI-isochrone with stellar parameters from Andrae+23 Gaia XP catalogues and metallicities from Pristine survey/Pristine Gaia XP. Uncertainties are down to 12% wohooo!!

Paper summary!!! On Monday, @astrobystrom and I put out this cool work: selecting red giants stars out to 100 kpc using the Pristine survey's data release 1 and Gaia XP catalogues. Here is a short summary of this long (sorry!) paper 🥳.
