Mike Burrows (acquired by HOU) is a strong backend starter who posted a 3.94 ERA and 4.00 FIP across 96.0 IP last season He sits mid 90s on his fastball and weaves in a typical SP mix. His bread-and-butter pitch is this high 80s changeup which he commands very well

Pirates get impact bat in Lowe, RP with premium stuff in Montgomery and a plus-D OF in Mangum. Rays get a very good prospect in Melton and big arm in Brito. Burrows has six years of control and can really pitch. First to say deal was happening: @Chandler_Rome and @Ken_Rosenthal.

Without Framber Valdez, the Astros need rotation help. They are trying to get it as cheaply as possible.

Updated Mike Burrows Projection 129 IP, 3.97 ERA, 1.23 WHIP, 23.2% K%, 8.0% BB% Big upside if Houston can improve his fastball. He has an absolutely filthy changeup, one of the best in all of baseball.

Montgomeryβs stuff is pure nasty and Iβm extremely curious what Murphy/Whitsett do with an already really good Pirates staff.

On a separate note, Bill Murphy and Thomas Whitsett working with Mason Montgomery in Pittsburgh, if the trade happens, is some exciting stuff.

Oh, yeah, the Astros were definitely not going, or even able, to top that trade package for Shane Baz.
Trade news: The Baltimore Orioles are acquiring right-hander Shane Baz from the Tampa Bay Rays for outfielder Slater de Brun, catcher Caden Bodine, right-hander Michael Forret, outfielder Austin Overn as well as a Competitive Balance Round A pick, sources tell ESPN.

That said, I would really miss Anderson Brito. Same with Jacob Melton, but Brito's potential is something to watch.

Bumping this thread once again for no particular reason...
Hereβs a couple of reminders about trade rumors/hypothetical trade season: 1. Not all organizations assign the same value to a particular player or prospect; it varies based on their own analysis and opinion from a variety of people. Cont.

Mike Burrows in 2025: 97th percentile in offspeed run value (+9). Just tweak that four-seam fastball shape and location a bitβ¦

@Chandler_Rome If trade is completed, outfielder Jacob Melton and right-hander Anderson Brito would head to the Rays.
