Another books give-away, this time a collection of translations of Greek and Latin classics! A generous reader donates the pamphlets owned by long-serving teacher Mary Hardwick. Ironically, schools once banned these books! Draw is on Wed. eve: RT and follow to throw your hat in!

Warning to everyone re @Avis. I just returned a 4-day rental to the airport in Columbus, OH which was quoted to me at $201 and Avis charged me over $1400! Customer "service" seems to think this is totally reasonable. My suggestion is to never ever rent from them.

Happy to be part of this productive team!
Our new paper on beta Hydri connects the critical Rossby number for the onset of Weakened Magnetic Braking with a threshold for large-scale organization by the stellar dynamo. Check out this nice illustration produced by @astrowright, then read the paper! https://t.co/FDhCX9eUde

I made a widget to help my astronomy students understand the Lomb-Scargle periodogram. It "observes" a sine wave with a day-night cycle, and allows you to adjust the oscillation period, noise level & cadence; thus simulating observations of variable stars

Since apparently this is the place to announce career news, I wanted to let everyone know that starting in January 2025, I will be moving to the Department of Astronomy and Astrophysics at @UChicago. Depending on when I'm asked about it, I'm either excited or terrified or both :)

Now that we're through the first round of peer review, here's a sneak preview from our forthcoming paper. "TESS asteroseismology of beta Hydri: a subgiant with a born-again dynamo" -- the second example of this rare phenomenon, after 94 Aqr Aa in 2020. https://t.co/eDc5qsHq2V
