"As much as I love covering national campaigns, I would be one of 50 reporters at an event. I have never felt more useful to the world than I do now. If we’re not there, it doesn’t get covered."

The Globe spoke to Alex Seitz-Wald about transitioning from NBC to the Midcoast Villager — and how coverage of Graham Platner’s controversial US Senate campaign bridged the gap.

Just read @michaelkruse and this is easily the best profile written about Graham Platner so far. Lots of new details about his past, which has so far been mostly understood only in broad strokes, as well as the specifics on his recruitment and much more.

The candidate embodies a quarter-century of raw American frustration. It’s the source of his strength — and potentially his downfall.

I have no reason to believe Susan Collins won't run for reelection, but notable she's still leaving the door open, at least a crack. Last month told reporters “it’s my plan" to run, but that she was focused on aprops.

Susan Collins when I asked whether her frustrations — from the WH trampling on Congress’ power of the purse to conservatives blocking funding bills — give her reservations about a reelection bid: “I still plan to run for reelection. I’ve not made an official announcement yet”

Huge kudos to @fearless_greene and @LancasterOnline! I really hope this helps inspire more national reporters to consider transitioning to local news. Your community needs you. It's so fulfilling to feel your impact so immediately. And so fun and creative to get to experiment.

"I think that’s our superpower compared to national folks: We’re here, our kids go to the same schools, we go to the same sports games, we shop at the same grocery stores. When there’s an ice storm and your power goes out, our power goes out. We have skin in the game."

This is exactly how I feel and why I am committed to covering Iowa politics. I'd rather write a deep dive about a state legislative race than a presidential campaign. People can't find that legislative coverage anywhere else.
