Luckily, there is a workaround that font producers can use to avoid the bug, but it shouldn’t be required. Distinct entries for nameID 25 seem to hack around the bug. More info: https://t.co/7H3KQ9Fd5H

→ It specifies who the new version of licensing applies to: customers who buy the fonts now and in the future, while this current EULA is in place. For existing customers, the original EULA you purchased stays valid.

→ It specifically allows several types of font modifications, especially in terms of what you can do with variable fonts, subsetting fonts for the web, and outlining fonts for artwork like logos and posters, etc.

→ It switches from a model based on desktop installations to one based on company size. This is inspired by the licensing from foundries like @abcdinamo and @mass_driver_tm. It simplifies the whole licensing process, and allows a company to use fonts much more freely.

→ It allows people to do more with the fonts, including embedding them into apps and ebooks. → It is a lot more clear about what usage is allowed, rather than just what is disallowed. It also (tries to) use language that is as readable as possible, avoiding legalese.

Really, though, upgrading my font EULA has been a fairly big project, and one of my most important ones! When you “buy a font,” you are *really* buying a license to that font, so the license is a huge part of the product I sell.
