In a convo with @vacuumcleaner this week I was reminded that I am a musician - often of the dark and full of feelings kind - and that not many people who know me as an artist know that. So here (for no good reason) is a thread of tracks I particularly enjoyed collaborating on:

Lucy worked as a recording artist with @armstrongtactic's project White Noise Factory funded by @hrzn_showcase back in Easter. Together we explored a "non linguistic process of discovery" Photos by @Jemimayon

Working with @armstrongtactic was a powerful experience that taught me new ways of non linguistic communication & connection. Music has always been a language to us as a family this felt like an encyclopedia of new terms. Photo @Jemimayong @hrzn_showcase @edinburghfringe

On the train on my way to Leeds to live and work for the next three weeks, listening to the epic Frozen Field, Burning Field by The Monroe Transfer which I highly recommend when travelling, or when you need to go on an emotional journey.

Part of our sound making exploration with artist @armstrongtactic today. Bear in mind Lucy only started self propelling her wheelchair a month ago... the power of the process and indeed "processing" is captured in this film. @WhizzKidz

Day two of our recording sessions & what's screamingly obvious is that words are only one ingredient in music making. Lucy's a vocalist without them. Why do we use deficit based language to describe that of wordless others? Communication is beyond #Words & love needs none at all.

Mixing sounds, making #ASMR recordings, singing, guitar playing and creating sounds with our wheelchair, I think Lucy is a natural born performance artist!

We're heading into a recording studio this week as Lucy has been picked as a vocalist by artist @armstrongtactic for her next big project. I often use my voice to campaign for Lucy’s, but this is all down to her skills. Beyond proud ❤️

Saw this at @ColchesterArts last night, it’s at @ThePlaceLondon today. I found it gentle but insistent in its joy, and full of permission to Just Be. Lovely. Also, buy the book.

This might have made me more inclined to depression and negativity (I certainly have a lot of capacity for that) but I think it also helps me understand something about how to survive it. This is one of the ways.

I was born in the most depressed part of the year, when people are broke, exhausted, emotionally triggered from the “festive season”, and a statistically larger proportion than at other times are thinking of ending their life.

It was my birthday recently, so I iced my Get Through January cake and I would like to offer anyone who wants one a slice.

being chronically ill and having to have rest days when you’ve got stuff to do is annoying, but sometimes you get just enough energy back to spend some of the afternoon chatting to people you love on the phone
